Blue Screen when opening IE or Firefox

I don't know where to ask this question and it's similar to a blue screen but not really.

I just completed a computer build with the following specs:

Mobo: ASUS P8P67 Deluxe
Mem: 16GB
SSD: 120GB
OS: Win 7 Pro x64
GPU: ATI Radeon 6870

What is happening is that when I try and goto the internet using IE8/IE9/Firefox/Chrome my screen will turn blue or white depending on the browser i'm using.

It turns blue with black vertical lines when I use IE8, it turn white with black veritcal lines for Firefox.

It has no errors on the screen like a typical BSOD. I have to hard reboot to get it to go again. If I don't use the internet i'm perfectly fine. I can watch my movies, TV shows etc.

I suspected it was the Ethernet Driver (one was Realtek and one was Intel Gigabit). I installed the latest drivers and still happening.

Really hoping my mobo is not the issue here. Keep in mind this is a fresh install of Win 7 on the SSD.

I thought of that too. I did uninstall the original version from the CD and went to the web site and downloaded the ATI Catalyst Manager along with the latest driver. Even used their little feature of detecting the graphics card (I was surprised I was able to even get that far without it crashing).

Downloaded and loaded it up and same thing happened.

I thought maybe I had installed the GPU wrong so i took it out and put it back in as well as the memory.

Would it matter what format type my SSD is??

Corsair have just gone through a lot of issues with their ssd force 3 & another ssd. That might be the source of what is going on. What ssd do you have & what firmware?

How does everything look in the device manager?

The SSD is: OCZ Solid 3 120GB 2.5IN SATA3 SandForce SF-2281 SSD Solid State Disk Flash.

I do not know what the firmware is. I wouldn't know how to check. Would you be able to direct me on how to find that out?

Device manager is perfectly fine. No esclamations marks or question marks.

Might I also add that i've done windows updates right when I installed the driver for the ethernet cards and it picked up 94 updates. Downloaded and installed perfectly fine. When I get home i'll check to ensure there are no other new updates. Quite possibly it missed an update/SP.

Might be best to get someone with some know how to help you on this otherwise it might end badly.

Go over here & find your drive. Download the toolbox. It will tell you your firmware. Do not update unless you are 100% confident doing so. The latest version is 2.15.

Follow the instructions to the letter. Have a look at this pdf file.

After reading through that I now realise that the Corsair is a breeze to update.

Thanks! I will definitely take a look at that and gauge if I'll do it myself or have someone do it for me.

Now if by chance it isn't the firmware or the drivers that is the issue and it is actually a hardware device issue, what could it be? I'm thinking it's the ethernet portion of the mobo in whichcase i'll have to return it and get another. Any other possibilities? Memory? GPU? Not enough infor to diagnose?

You'll just have to rule things out one at a time till you find the issue.

I've figured it out!

I went home last night and switched video cards with this one I had in my other computer (Probably a year old vid card). It was working perfectly fine!

Went to get the thing replaced and the guy told me that there is a problem occasionally with some ATI video cards. What happens is that upon idling, the voltage that is given to the video card is too low and it just craps out give you a blank screen with columns.

Got it switched up and everything is fine and dandy.

Good to hear. Don't worry about updating the firmware on the ssd. Best to leave it if all is well.
