BSOD during normal usage, Have to restart Explorer.exe every time

I was just using my computer normally, playing games, on the Internet, stuff like that, when my computer BSODs, automatically restarts (i could not see what the BSOD said, it flashed by so quickly), and now i get a black screen with my pointer after i login. i CAN open task manager with ctrl+shift+escape and restart explorer.exe to get to my desktop and use my computer normally, but its not loading the drivers for things that come with a laptop computer like the graphical popup saying caps lock or the volume thingy. i usually can fix things like this myself, but my normal troubleshooting routine doesn't find anything out of the ordinary.
from what i can tell, its not loading any startup applications at all.

My computer runs its original Win 7 Home Premium (OEM) and i got it last Christmas.
I also dual boot Ubuntu (whatever the newest release is)

as a side note: i think my system report says i dont have antivirus. i do, its avast free. it probably just didnt load at startup and didnt register.

    thanks for the help!
