No DMP files included in upload please try this method


We do need the DMP file as it contains the only record of the sequence of events leading up to the crash, what drivers were loaded, and what was responsible.

You may be able to get the DMP files without crashing by booting into safe mode (F8) with networking.

To enable us to assist you with your computer's BSOD symptoms, upload the contents of your "\Windows\Minidump" folder.

The procedure:

* Copy the contents of \Windows\Minidump to another (temporary) location somewhere on your machine.
* Zip up the copy.
* Attach the ZIP archive to your post using the "paperclip" (file attachments) button.
*If the files are too large please upload them to a file sharing service like "Rapidshare" and put a link to them in your reply.


To ensure minidumps are enabled:

* Go to Start, in the Search Box type: sysdm.cpl, press Enter.
* Under the Advanced tab, click on the Startup and Recovery Settings... button.
* Ensure that Automatically restart is unchecked.
* Under the Write Debugging Information header select Small memory dump (256 kB) in the dropdown box (the 256kb varies).
* Ensure that the Small Dump Directory is listed as %systemroot%\Minidump.
* OK your way out.
* Reboot if changes have been made.

From what I am understanding so far is: There is a kernel power error (Event 41), that occurs when I open a picture, the computer turns off and then back on by itself - with no DMP file produced which apparently is needed to figure out what is wrong.

Kernel power error simply says the computer was not shut down cleanly. It is not what triggered it to shut down, just saying that it wasnt shut down normally.

I'm just not understanding why the crashes aren't producing the DMP file needed to figure out what is wrong. BTW not every picture causes the crash only specific ones I carried over from an old hard drive.

Have you run Malwarebytes?

It's scanning and found a few infected objects - I'll restart after it's done and see if I still crash - Thank you for all the help you have given me so far.

It didn't do anything, but I learned something new - my computer only crashes when I double click on the picture to preview it, I can right click on the picture and then select preview and everyone is fine. Could it have something to do with my mouse drivers (Razer Deathadder 3500 dpi)?
