    Processor Speed displays incorrectly

    Hello,

I've been having this problem randomly over the last couple of months and have not been able to figure it out my self so any help would be great!

Problem: In the systems information area my processor speed is displaying incorrectly. I'm not exactly sure what is causing it, but when this happens every video I play is choppy and every video game goes into SUPER slow motion... Please see the image below. The processor speed is showing 11.06GHZ when it should be displaying 3.8GHZ.

The ONLY way I cant temporarily fix this is to turn off the PC AND switch off the PSU. If I just shut down the PC without switching off the PSU it will not resolve the CPU speed issue.

Any help would be appreciated! Thanks.

This happened in an old m11x build I used that allowed OCing via the BIOS...
Except that it correctly displayed the OC speed next to the standard speed. Have you ever tried overclocking your CPU or changing your BIOS?

    Fun fact:
That 11.06 speed is exactly 3.5 times the normal speed

Lol, just to check: Install Speccy and go to CPU from the left side and check in Specification. There should be 3.8GHz.
Also try to run a SFC Scan.

Chaorace - The BIOS does allow overclocking (EVGA 750i FTW) and I do have it overclocked to 3.8ghz

try turning off overclocking, then turning it back on. The problem may just be a wonky setting in the BIOS.

    EDIT:
For best results, boot up after turning OC off so windows registers the standard speed and the BIOS saves the new configuration, then turn OC back on so windows sees the new speed and the BIOS saves this configuration.

You're stock speed is 3.16GHz. This is strange for a bit. Maybe you should try re-run WEI assessment.

In some systems the WEI "confused" when the graphic card is faulty or overclocked.

    Also from general "bad" overclocking.

    Bad\faulty motherboard.

And after a HDD firmware update (hard disk not ssd).

(Gigabyte motherboards do this after corrupted bios flash)thats why re recommend the safest way,the usb method.

I know,is strange sample\issue but it happens.I cant know though which exactly is the case for you.

Solutions iv tried? Flash bios (if possible) with the usb method . Stop oc,set everything back to defaults.

You can also check\stress your gpu with OCCT (the new version is compatible with both amd and nvidia).

As for the WEI is better to "clear" the experience index.

Follow Step 3 in this tutorial Windows Experience Index - Reset
