    Windows 7 keeps freezing

    Hello,

I have Windows 7 Ultimate 64bit installed on my system. I've had it for some time now, and haven't had any problems until recently. My old video car, at least from what I think, was having issues, so I just upgraded it to GeForce GT440. With my old video card, my computer kept freezing, but also, I would get error messages that about the drivers for the video card. I also checked the temperature, and it seemed as though the video card was constantly overheating. When I disabled the video card, the computer seemed to not have any issues.

Anyways, I just upgraded the card, and now I don't get any driver issues. But the computer keeps freezing. Ctrl, alt., Delete does nothing, and I have to manually press the power button on the computer to restart.

I do not know if I have done this right, but I have attached the event log from Windows. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

    Thanks in advance.

    Simmilar problems of Win7 freezing

I have the same problem you have mentioned above. I believe our systems are very much alike.

I have had this computer for 4 years without problems. I originally had Vista Home Premium and upgraded about a year back and no problems at all.
The problem started a week ago, the computer froze overnight and did not show me any blue screen. I could not reset with the Ctrl-Alt-Del or use the soft shutdown, but only by pressing long on the power button. I could see that the display was somehow the cause because I could see RGB lines randomly on the screen and the mouse pointer was in a purple box.

The following few days I disabled the graphics driver in safe mode and couldn't get it to work after that. My display would keep showing me white and coloured pixelated lines on the BIOS screen or Vista startup (illuminating windows), but would be almost normal when running windows except no aero display. The card could not be recognized when installing the new and old drivers, so I kept it on a standard display adapter driver.

Eventually I was advised to format my PC by the retailer to the original settings. That obviously didn't fix the graphics card issue, so I upgraded my NVIDIA GeForce 9800GT to GT520 and found that it resolved the problem.

As I was restoring my old documents and software on the PC before yesterday, it suddenly froze again, no blue screen or memory dump, and no BSOD. It seems to be more stable, as I don't get the pixelated or RGB lines while restarting, only while it froze.

I'm wondering whether it is a software issue with Windows 7, as I didn't have it while installing the updates, only when I finished the last set of updates and restoring my documents. It doesn't seem to be related to the BSOD or blue screen as it does not tell me what has crashed.

It is frustrating not to get proper technical support for PCs in the Middle East, therefore I rely entirely on forums and myself. Now I can't seem to find the solution to why it keeps freezing.

Any input and feedback might help

    Thanks
