    BSOD without code, system service exception, played BF3

    Hello! I purchased a MSI GTX 550 TI 1GB DDR5 OC last afternoon to replace my Gigabyte 9800GT 512MB OC. All was fine until last night when I suddenly got a blue screen without a code. Rebooted and I thought it was my new webcam, also bought yesterday, because it would hang at the driver installation screen. I also ran MSI Kombustor on my card for ten minutes without issue.

    This morning I ran Battlefield 3 again and at first all was fine and no strange GPU usage drops and FPS drops until a few minutes in then it started. My FPS started dropping from 50+ to 3+ and then suddenly a BSOD with System Service Exception. I booted up and it didn't start. My fans started spinning but no BIOS. Tried a few times and got the memory beeps from my board. I reinstalled my old graphics card and tried and it worked so I put in my new one again and it also worked.

    The thing is, it was dumping physical memory but no minidump is present in the folder? Should I wait until I get another one or could this be a one off?

    Intel Core 2 Quad Q9400 @ 2.66ghz stock
    2x 1gb Corsair DDR2 667 mhz ram, 2x 1gb Mushkin DDR2 667mhz ram
    Western Digital 500gb 16mb, WD 1TB 32mb
    MSI GTX 550 TI 1GB DDR5 OC
    Corsair VX450 psu

    We do need the DMP file as it contains the only record of the sequence of events leading up to the crash, what drivers were loaded, and what was responsible.

    If you are overclocking STOP

    You may be able to get the DMP files without crashing by booting into safe mode (F8) with networking.

    To enable us to assist you with your computer's BSOD symptoms, upload the contents of your "\Windows\Minidump" folder.

    The procedure:
    * Copy the contents of \Windows\Minidump to another (temporary) location somewhere on your machine.
    * Zip up the copy.
    * Attach the ZIP archive to your post using the "paperclip" (file attachments) button.
    *If the files are too large please upload them to a file sharing service like "Rapidshare" and put a link to them in your reply.

    To ensure minidumps are enabled:
    * Go to Start, in the Search Box type: sysdm.cpl, press Enter.
    * Under the Advanced tab, click on the Startup and Recovery Settings... button.
    * Ensure that Automatically restart is unchecked.
    * Under the Write Debugging Information header select Small memory dump (256 kB) in the dropdown box (the 256kb varies).
    * Ensure that the Small Dump Directory is listed as %systemroot%\Minidump.
    * OK your way out.
    * Reboot if changes have been made.

    There was one more BSOD with a minidump, Blue Screen Viewer marked the Windows kernel driver as the culprit. Anyway I decided to reformat my system first to eliminate driver errors and ran Memtest 86 for 5 hours with 4 passes to test my RAM. So far, so good. Will keep this thread posted if possible.

    Good Luck and Yell if you need help.

    Just an FYI, Blue Screen View often incorrectly blames OS files.
