Im in devmngr, with "everything" shown now, but still no monitor?! Interestingly, "Security Processor Loader Driver" has a ! on it. Probably not related, though, huh? Just uninstalled graphics driver again. I'll try finding the driver buried in the restore partition, and see how it works.
Does the Monitors level show up in Device Manager in normal mode? Check it out if you can get back into normal operating mode and let me know.

Edit: It should be in the same place as in my picture

Did it. Restarted, message says, "Device driver was not successfully installed." -video controller, no driver found
ASUS restore is one big archive, so no go on using the original driver.

In device manager- Display adapter has the generic driver, but then below under Other devices it has Video controller- and that has a code 28

This was for the monitor or display card?

I did it for the monitor like you suggested. The display card driver was uninstalled after the most recent BSOD. I had to uninstall it to get back into normal windows, and therefore, to get to the normal device manager, where the monitor was displayed.

If you now install the display card without the monitor installed, does it work?

Super hybrid engine as I understand is like an over/underclocker for the atom cpu. Some forums had indicated that it caused problems with displays. As long as I've had this eee pc, if you plugged it in while it was on, the screen would get lines that made it unreadable. I updated to SHE software a late 2011 version, then reinstalled the Intel driver. So far, so good. Normal Boot!!!

Strangely though there is NO audio device detected, even as a hidden device. It had a little red X on the speaker icon, but I was worrying about one thing at a time.

Glad you remembered reading about that. That is definitely a plus.

Are there any buttons on the laptop itself for disabling audio? I know some laptops have such features for the audio, wireless, and even the mousepad. Could be related.

Just to be sure, I restored w/ F9 one more time, then IMMEDIATELY re-installed the updated Super Hybrid Engine 2.19, and all is well. Windows updates work fine now.

Thanks SO MUCH for all your help with this issue. My wife thanks you too, she really appreciates having her netbook back!

The audio still doesn't work, even after installing the ASUS/realtek driver. Device manager doesnt even show a sound device existing. I may need to make a new post for this.
