Windows freezes at bootup

hello
I am not sure if this is the right place to put this so please tell me if its not. My pc sometimes freezes just before the windows logo starts to play (attached photo) and authorities it boots up just fine! There is no blue screen or anything it just freezes. My pc runs fine otherwise and I am not overclocking. I do not want to reinstall windows as i have lots of software that have had all their serial keys used up.
My system is windows 7 64bit retail. My PC has:
Nvidia evga GTX 460
i5 2500k cpu
intel DP67DE motherboard
6gb of ram

Have you tried booting into safe mode (F8)?

yeah, I can boot up in normal mode eventually as well it is just really annoying, any idea of a fix?

I need a lot more information first.

[B]To check for freezing/crashing you need to check several things.

Event viewer.

Type eventvwr in search and go to the windows log>application tab.
Look for errors. Errors have red in the left hand column.

Look for errors that say app hang, or app crash, or anything related to the problem.
When you find them either take a screenshot of them and upload them to us, or note the event ID and source codes and look them up in google. If you cant find them in google tell us what they are.

the only thing I can see that would relate to it is "the following boot-start or system-start drivers failed to load: cdrom"
not sure if that is relevent but nothing else on that list seems like it would relate!

did you look for errors in both the application tab, and the system tab

Yep I tried both but I'm guessing that because I have to power off when it freezes and reboot that it doesn't show there?

Hi. I had exactly the same problem. It was doing my head in I tried all sorts but I think I've sorted it now.

First thing. if you have a usb keyboard make sure it's plugged in a usb2.0 (not usb3.0) port at the back. This will also make your keyboard work preboot for when you to chose 'start windows normally' after resetting a frozen screen.

So open this link: Drivers - Download NVIDIA Drivers

Fill in your graphics card details and download the latest drivers.

When installing, Click custom install on the list of check boxes uncheck '3d vision' stuff and (this is the important bit) check 'perform a clean installation' at the bottom.

Finish install and reboot.

If it still freezes, repeat one more time.

And if that doesn't work.... no idea!
