bsod coming out of sleep (used to work, but no longer)

I think your method of renaming them is about the only thing to do other than a clean install. Just make sure no other programs need the driver file before doing so or you could cause instability elsewhere. It's a good idea to create a system image before changing driver file names, as well. That way, you can roll back to the system image if renaming causes problems. For system image creation, see Backup Complete Computer - Create an Image Backup or Imaging with free Macrium; I use the second method with Macrium, myself. :)

Well I've had a couple bsod's in the last few hours, coming out of sleep. Here are the notes:

- windows/minidump contains no new items. Does that mean there is nothing for me to upload regarding these hangs?

- every time it awakes successfully from sleep, the tray network icon starts off with a red x, meaning no network access, and quickly switches to the normal icon (attached) meaning i'm good. The machine then works. And every time it fails coming out of sleep the tray network icon starts off with a blue circle through it, meaning its trying to gain network access, and then it bsod's. (Edit - it just successfully came out of sleep starting with a blue circle, then it connected and all is well - so this paragraph may be moot other than to say if it connects, it doesn't hang). I have no network drivers on my machine other than the latest one for my motherboard

which is Realtek LAN Driver7.048.0823.2011. I did totally remove it and then reinstall it, with no change to symptoms. I'm cat5 attached to a 2WIRE DSL router/router with at&t uverse. Nobody else is attached to my router.

which is file Windows6.1-KB977178-v2-x64.msu, and appears to be made for exactly my problem, but when I try to install it, it just says "this update is not applicable to your computer". I have hybrid sleep disabled in my power profile, which is said to be a setting that helps. I'm on build 7601.win7sp1_gdr.110622-1506

Third question, and an important one: do you still have verifier enabled? If so, it may be the reason why the .dmp files were not created. If you do have it enabled, and intend to continue running it to find possible conflicts, recommend verifying 5 or 10 non-Microsoft drivers at a time to prevent conflicts in creating the .dmp files. Sometimes verifying all non-Microsoft drivers at once causes .dmp files not to be created.

I do believe verifier is still enabled - how do I check to make sure?

I ran chkdsk /r /f on both disks yesterday - no issues

All old drivers called out by JMH were removed using add/remove, or their programs using the uninstall.exe/unwise.exe program in the program folder, or through renaming. I was using none of their programs. Still wakes fine with no 1TB drive attached, hangs (sometimes) with 1TB drive attached. If I could just get KB977178 to install....

attached are the remaining non-MS drivers. The second realtek driver is for my motherboard audio (just in case someone thinks I have LAN drivers)

To find out if Verifier is running, do the following steps.

1. Click Start Menu
2. Type Verifier into Search programs and files (do not hit enter)
3. Right click Verifier and click Run as administrator
4. Tick the circle for Display information about the currently verified drivers
5. Click Next and report what is in the box on the right
