BSOD / Comp freezes randomly - New Build

Hey everyone,

I did my first build a while ago but kept getting the Blue Screen of Death. I got a tech guy in to look at how I built it, do mem tests and hard drive tests and he said that the motherboard must be faulty. I then sent the motherboard back and they gave me a replacement.

I now have put it back together and am STILL getting BSOD's or my screen just freezes. It can run for quite a while without crashing if I am just using facebook or just cruising the web but when I start using skype or play games or have a few different programs open it is more likely to crash. However it does crash even when I am just using Chrome.

At this point in time I think it could be a compatibility problem with some hardware I'm using otherwise I am just over the crashing and really need any help I can get!! Thanks

The first thing I would check is your motherboard site to make sure the memory you have installed is known to be compatible with the board.

System Specs:

- x86 (32-bit) or x64 ? x64
- the original installed OS on the system? Yes
- an OEM or full retail version? Full retail version
- What is the age of system (hardware)? I bought everything new around June 2011
- What is the age of OS installation (have you re-installed the OS?) And installed it on the same day

I have attached the needed files.

The computer will more likely freeze than BSOD.

Just like another member (Aptenodytes) said "Freezes manifest as sudden loss of mouse and keyboard control, screens stay on, sometimes with animated cursor still animated (for about 20 seconds then it stops), and if sound is playing then it goes onto a 0.1s loop (sounds like a machine gun), then I'm forced to hit the reset button.", but unluckily, for me I need to hit the power button to shut down the machine instead of the reset button.

Describes my problem perfectly. I had a tech guy come in and do mem and hard drive tests and said the motherboard must be faulty. He also said I put it together fine. Since then I have received a replacement for the motherboard and I STILL get these freezes / BSOD.

Have you updated all your drivers from the Asus motherboard website?
Don't use the drivers on the CD that came with the motherboard, they are usually old drivers.

There are 50 crash dump files.

The first, Last and most of the rest are STOP 0x0000003D: INTERRUPT_EXCEPTION_NOT_HANDLED
The others are STOP x03D ANALYSIS_INCONCLUSIVE, which is likely the same driver.
This is a rare stop code.
It indicates the Marvell MV91xx AHCI/RAID driver.
Go to your ASUS motherboard website and D/L and install this driver.

If you are using Norton Anti virus, please un-install, run the Norton un-installer.
This is for testing purposes.
Norton is known to cause BSoDs in Windows 7.
Down load and install MSE during testing.

Reply with a description of what you have done and any questions you might have.

Install Windows 7 Service Pack 1
Learn how to install Windows 7 Service Pack 1 (SP1)

After SP1 is installed, check for all Windows updates and install them.

Haha yeah I have had this computer crash a ridiculous amount of times while trying to do work on it.

Ok so far I have:

- Downloaded and installed all the latest drivers from the ASUS website (including the Marvell one)
- Installed the Windows 7 Service Pack 1
- Uninstalled Norton AntiVirus and installed the Microsoft Security Essentials
- Disconnected my CD/DVD drive

Ok so today I have been using it normally until I tried to open Google Chrome and Mozilla Thunderbird and they weren't opening. The mouse cursor icon was the loading circle and I couldn't even open the Start menu so I tried to Ctrl + Alt + Delete and nothing happened for a couple of minutes. Then my screen just went black with the same loading circle for the mouse icon. I left it for 20 mins and nothing changed. At least its a change I guess
