System very unstable, overheating NB a possible cause?

I have one HDD that's not the boot drive (might be the drive used for virtual memory now that you mention it) that SpeedFan SMART reports tells me is beginning to fail.

Replace or remove when testing.
You can replace this drive after the crashes are stopped, then you will know if it is causing a problem.

What anti-virus are you using? I'm using MSE. There is something installed from McAfee but it only tells me whether or not my computer is safe, not actually an anti-Virus software, I will uninstall that when I get home

Un-install the McAfee software, it is known to cause crashes on Windows 7.
Run the uninstaller from the McAfee site.
With MSE you will be safe, run Malwarebytes once a week.

Find this and disable or un-install. It's the driver for my graphics tablet I received at Christmas. I assume I can reinstall it once we locate this problem

Uninstall it for testing.
Any driver from before 14 July 2009 is not recommended for use in Windows 7.
After the issues are solved, check the Wacom site for a newer Win7 driver or e-mail them if you can't find one on their site.

Run System File Checker, let us know if it comes up with anything.
Don't try to install any Windows updates that have caused a crash until we are finished.
Not many updates cause crashes anymore, this indicates a system fault.

Any error in memtest86+ means there is a problem with the RAM.
Corsair is pretty good about RMAs, try to change it for one of the RAM kits listed below, or ask them for a recommendation.

wish I read this earlier. I done everything you said in your last post apart from the Windows Updates part. I attempted to install the rest, it bluescreened and now Windows won't boot.

With the amount of fixes we've tried, it looks like it's a hardware problem. I'll RMA the RAM since MemTest has errors and you said a lot of my crashes are consistent with memory errors and then come back with an update.

Thanks again for the advice, hopefully we can get this solved!

just thinking about the RMA, can I ask them to change it for a different kit? I thought they would only replace like for like?

I would explain the crashes you have had, mention that it is guaranteed to run on AMD systems, and that you want to try another kit.

Ask them what they suggest for your motherboard.

They are usually good about changing kits.

If you still have the original order, send it to them with the request for replacement with another model.

Tell them you system specs and ask them to recommend a kit.
