How old is your system? Is it still under warranty?

I bought this laptop back in summer 2010. And no, don't have warranty anymore.

It may be worth trying a full format and then doing a clean install of Windows 7 to see if the problem persists. Since you said it first happened after re-formatting, it is difficult at the moment to determine whether the problem is hardware related or something that went wrong with the format and installation.

If you do not want to do a clean install right off, we can try a Repair Install first and see if it rectifies the situation.

I understand that it was not successful the previous time. I am recommending doing it again to determine whether it was a bad install or if it is a hardware issue we are dealing with.

Any luck with a re-install? I am wondering if you may have a corrupted installation disc.

    djpabz23 -
Did you ever solve your problem? I am having the same one. I also have a Gateway NV53. My problem seems to be occurring randomly though, and not when I am transferring files via USB. I have no idea what it setting it off, but it's been happening for a few months. I've tried everything you have in this thread- reformt/clean install, etc.

phillyg, I would suggest starting your own thread as this one has had no response for a while from the OP. If you want, you can send a link to your new thread here and I will try to help you out.

If you start your own thread, you may get multiple people trying to help and hopefully resolve the problem.
