    Shutdown computer during Win7 Update

    Hello,

I've had this PC for around a year and a half now. (HP Pavillion p6655d - Win7 Home Basic 32 Bit) and I shut it off 2 days ago manually while doing an update as I was rushing to attend some personal business.

Well, I've been trying to boot it up since yesterday and it still wont start.
I've pretty much been Googling everything but nothing seems to work.
    I don't have a Windows 7 Install Disc either.

However, I did come across a thread. It told me to delete pending.xml
and reboot.xml. Pending.xml has been deleted, however reboot.xml cannot be deleted because it is CORRUPT! I really need some help on this as I have so many valuable files on this desktop.

Hope for a speedy reply, thanks!

    Welcome to Windows Seven Forums.

Use this tutorial to create a Windows repair disc.

    System Repair Disc - Create

It won't re-install Windows, but you can boot into it to gain acess to the Windows Recovery Environment, from where I'd be inclined to try a system restore to a point before you downloaded this update.

I've tried all the System Restore points, and they have all restored successfully, but my computer still won't boot.

If you can borrow a Windows 7 DVD from a friend you can use it to re-install your operating system and activate it with the product key on your computer's COA sticker.

The Windows DVD will need to be the same version as that already installed on your computer.

If I did that, would my files be deleted? Sorry, I'm not really a computer expert.

Hello, I forgot to add, it seems that all my Windows files are in Drive D. I also have a Windows folder in a drive X.
I deleted the pending.xml for updates in Drive X as they could not be found in my Drive D. Reboot.xml is in Drive D though. And it its corrupted.

    Yes, it would.

However, if you managed to create a system repair disc or you can borrow a Windows 7 DVD you could try a startup repair first.

    Startup Repair

You'll need to run it at least three times with a reboot between each one.

I've been able to get into the Recovery Environment without a disc. Would they be the same?

I've tried using System Repair but it would take a long time. Around 3+ hours without anything detected.

If you can get into the Recovery Environment without a disc that would the same as accessing it with a system repair disc.

System repair can take a long time depending what is wrong with your system and in the absence of a Windows DVD or a set of HP recovery discs, you don't have a lot of choice but to let it run.

Hmmm, would it run any faster if I was able to get a repair disc? Anyways, I'll let it run.
I'm about to go to the local computer store as well to get some extra help.
    I'll update it soon, thanks!
