BSOD while copying to external HD

I am getting a BSOD while trying to copy data to external HD. The bsod error message is something along the line of "display driver failed while trying to reset". I have AMD Phenom X4 2.4Ghz with 8GB memory and Nvidia Gforce 9100 graphics card. Also it is on 64bit Windows 7 RTM.

Any help will be greatly appreciated.

    Thanks.

DOes the BSOD occur each time you try to copy to the ext HD? If it does, it certainly sounds like you need an updated chipset driver. Followed by a re-install of your video driver.

If these drivers are current, was the chipset driver installed after the video? If yes, re-install the video driver.

Of course, ZigZag is correct. Careful examination of the dump is in order.

The bsod has occurred only when I try to copy to ext HD except for last night. I woke up this morning and I saw my computer was restarted. The restart was caused by a blue screen. So, copying to ext hd is not the only reason it seems like.

Where do i get the chipset driver? I did install the latest driver from Nvidia's site.

    Thanks.

After debugging through the windbg i found that nvlddmkm.sys is the culprit. I have the latest drivers from nvidia site which is 191.07, but I was able to reproduce the issue when trying to copy things to external drive. Any ideas how i can fix this issue?

hmmm... just checked HP's website (thats where I got my pc), they dont have any drivers for my graphics card for windows 7. Actually, they dont have any drivers for win 7 yet. Checked NVIDIA site as well, they dont seem to have a graphic card driver for Geforce 9100 yet.

One other thing i have found that I am missing the driver for "Coprocessor". I haven't been able to find the driver for it yet. Do you think the missing driver could be causing the issue?

    Thanks.

    Hi -

You may find that your 2007 VMWare installation is causing the trouble when copying to the external HDD, specifically the first driver -
    Code:

    hcmon.sys Tue Aug 21 18:55:58 2007 (46CB97AE) -- VMware USB monitor

    VMkbd.sys Tue Aug 21 19:24:56 2007 (46CB9E78)
    VMNET.SYS Fri Mar 16 03:06:46 2007 (45FA6C36)
    vmnetadapter.sys Fri Mar 16 03:07:20 2007 (45FA6C58)
    vmnetbridge.sys Fri Mar 16 03:06:57 2007 (45FA6C41)
    vmnetuserif.sys Tue Aug 21 18:58:56 2007 (46CB9860)
    vmx86.sys Tue Aug 21 18:16:32 2007 (46CB8E70)

And this Displaylink USB driver may be an issue -
    Code:

    DisplayLinkUsbPort_5.2.21026.0.sys Mon Apr 06 09:16:48 2009 (49DA2AF0)
    Regards. . .
