The page file is 6336 MB and I have only activated it on C:, which is the drive Windows is installed on.
I have also set it so size is decided by Windows

UAC is not enabled, but I have gotten dumps before...

Ok, what do you thing about the error message that I current page file is disabled or less than 1 MB?

Have you rebooted since you checked the page files @ 6336?

    I had

I have turned UAC on MAX...

I switch off the page file, rebooted and switch it on again, letting windows select the size of the page file. REBOOTED and now the file size if 3066 MB (which is the size of my RAM).

I still get the error message when trying to select Small memory dump

It is not certain that it is possible to record information that facilitates identification of system failure, because the current paging file is disabled, or less than 1 megabyte. Click OK to return to the screen with virtual memory settings, enable the swap file and set the size to a value larger than 1 megabyte. You can also click Cancel to change the options for memory dumping.
So something is wrong in my system

So I will try to Install a new version of Windows 7 (using Windows 7 pro upgrade at the moment but I have a Windows 7 Ultimate that I want to install)

    Thank for the help!

If you dont do a clean install you will import the problems into the new OS.

I figured I had to do a clean install to get rid of all problems.

The "only" thing I'm a bit uncertain about is the device drivers.

Can I do a clean install with Window 7 Ultimate and then go to Dells web site and download the drivers for Vostro 1720 or should I download the drivers first?

I would clean install first then go to Dell if any are missing in device manager. I am a dell owner and Im not to happy about their driver support.

Remember clean instal only. dont install anything else till you see if you have BSOD's or not. If not install one thing at a time, till you find the trouble maker.
