i encountered this when recovering windows through acer erecovery the second time. It happened much before the events ive posted in this current thread. I experienced bsods a while after when i installed ultra iso and updating windows when i got the machine. I mean at that time the bsods were random. I recovered windows then the bsods stopped. Then again while installing a .net framework 4 windows update the system crashed with a bsod. This time the recovery failed with the error that i posted that ''windows could not be configured to run on this systems hardware''(sorry it was not 'optimized'). So i reinstalled windows using a disc i had of windows 7 ultimate 32-bit. Windows installed successfully. After that when i ran recovery to get the OEM version of acer it was successful. After that i got the IRQL NOT LESS OR EQUAL BSOD for which jmh advised to remove mcafee. And nw the machine is fine. So this is the history of the machine. So was just curious about that error i encountered before. sorry the error was ''windows could not be configured to run on this systems hardware''. Thanx in advance

I note McAfee is still on your system...

    As stated before
McAfee is a frequent cause of BSOD's
Remove and replace it with Microsoft Security Essentials AT LEAST TO TEST!
