it wouldn't, but that drive is going to be very unreliable. In my opinion, it is not worth the hassle and frustration of trying to keep it going, especially if it is still under warranty.

well im thinking it is not within the warranty
WD will have no liability for any Product returned if WD determines that:

    • The product was stolen from WD.
    • The asserted defect:
      • is not present,
      • cannot reasonably be fixed because of damage occurring when the Product is in the possession of someone other than WD, or
      • is attributable to misuse, improper installation, alteration (including removing or obliterating labels and opening or removing external covers (unless authorized to do so by Western Digital or an authorized Service Center)), accident or mishandling while in the possession of someone other than WD.

    • The Product was not sold to you as new.
    • The product was not used in accordance with Western Digital specifications and instructions.
    • The product was not used for its intended function (for example, desktop drives used in an Enterprise environment).

removed all files & reformatted the drive

testing it again also im going to look for another program if this one reports there's problems to get another program to say there was errors & what not

also this problem might be due to having it in a basement being cold
so when this hdd finally fails 100% what would it do just stop responding, catch fire & R blow my pc

also how could i find out what kind of fail im having

If the hard drive fails, it will basically become louder and louder, data will become corrupted more and more often, sectors will go bad at a faster rate, or it will stop spinning altogether. Depends on the type of failure. It won't blow up your PC.

I do not think the drive being somewhat cold is going to hurt performance; it is actually more likely to help performance since heat issues often cause drive failures.

thanks for that bit of info
i ran check disk at boot up again and no error reports
i got only a text file & 4 avis on the hdd after the report it started to do the 2nd hdd that i been booting from & i noticed that that it said there was 76kb in bad sectors nothing else

you think this set up would mess up my pc's mobo R cpu
i only got 1 ide slot on my pc which is meant im thinking only for the dvd drive could also be for a hdd
i got the 2nd hdd from my old pc connected to that & as of right now it boots from it then the sata drive just sits connected i didn't do nothing inside the bios just yet as i dont like to mess around in there to much
if not ill use this set up intill i can afford a new drive

You could check it from XP just using the standard disk check. Disk Check

i have been reading up on the subject of bad sectors & i think maybe i could exclude them from being used
i found a thread on the subject How to fix bad sectors or clusters on hard drive ? - Hardware Peripherals
im now 0n post 13 which might have some useful info & whatnot How to fix bad sectors or clusters on hard drive ? - Hardware Peripherals
    1. If a HDD has a mechanical failure, i.e. makes a clunking or clanking type noise (similar to a knocking noise) while you are attempting to use it,
or it does not power on or spin at all, then the HDD most likely is "Kaput"
which this hdd isn't making no load noise it powers on & is recognized by windows im thinking it might not want to spin sometimes but it it does spin since using this 2nd hdd to boot from everything seems to work im running check disk in cmd right now by typing chkdsk /r e:
to see any if any errors so far no errors & im on stage 5 at 50%
now in that thread i posted they said something about kill disk what do you think
    2. If however the HDD is recognized by the BIOS and it does spin, then there is hope.
which it is recognized by the bios & does spin with no load clunking sound

    results of check disk

man im thinking this hdd might be repairable im not hearing no sounds & haven't heard no sounds for 4 hours of use havent been using that hdd directly but still running
im going to make sure its nice & snug then move my pc's location from my desk
once in awhile it would shake from me hitting the disk not a hard shake but enough to hear the case rattle
have really heard no sounds like the ones in this video
    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JjgOSxKy-FQ
only sound i hear is at startup & that sounds like its humming or an engine trying to start up

like right now i have had no real issue with this hdd i have installed windows xp then updated my pc fully then installed 7 again no problems im think if i can cut the drive in half R something it might work since my hdd is 320gb & might have any where from 2gb-160gb of bad sectors R what every they are called
    but my hdd has no
    clunking or clanking type noise
& it has to be spinning for me to use it right now as i type so its spinning right now and no noises by following the tut on this thread post 13
    http://forums.techarena.in/hardware-...tm#post4711387
do you think it would do the job?
