half second BSOD just after window starts to start then it restarts PC

    Computer starts Windows then keeps re-booting then BSOD


    I had this problem with a new Asus motherboard and I7 processor. I then found a posting on this forum suggesting that you could try setting the SATA mode (in the BIOS) to IDE?

    My windows is now running perfectly!

    Thanks for posting CrispyAlex. Yes, sometimes AHCI does cause some instability and IDE works better. Many times, especially if AHCI causes problems, there is no noticeable performance change between the two other than maybe a slight increase in boot time by a few seconds. I think stability is more important than speed in these cases.
