Ok, might be on something here. I burned the OS to a dvd and started it....
I got an error message like the image I have attached. Says "a required CD/DVD drive device driver is missing.
That means the driver for my cd/dvd rom is not working as it should, right? Maybe thats the reason my copy of the OS got corrupted.

I might need some help updating this driver. When I go into the device, I dont have a choice to update the driver. Its greyed out. I found out the driver is located here though: C:/Windows/system32/DRIVERS/cdrom.sys

Now when I found this out, I remember the cd rom was sooo slow to start the install on both this new disk and the old one...

    How can I update this?

    Worth a try eh? :)

Can you find the hardware IDs?

    1. Click Start Menu
    2. Right Click My Computer/Computer
    3. Click Manage
    4. Click Device Manager from the list on the left
    5. Expand DVD/CD-ROM Drives
    6. Right click your drive and click Properties
    7. Click the Details tab
    8. Change the Property value to Hardware Ids
    9. List those Ids here

    Alternatively:
    1. Login as an adminstrative user.
    2. Click Start Menu
    3. Click Control Panel
    4. Click Hardware and Sound
    5. Click Device Manager (the last link under Devices and Printers)
    6. Expand DVD/CD-ROM Drives
    7. Right click your drive and click Properties
    8. Click the Details tab
    9. Change the Property value to Hardware Ids
    10. List those Ids here

You can also install Windows from a usb flash drive. See USB Windows 7 Installation Key Drive - Create

Are you currently doing a repair or clean install (so I know which steps to find/give)?

Yes. See Required CD/DVD Drive Device Missing - Fresh Install (your ISO source is valid, so no worries there, but it is possible the ISO was not burnt properly and so you have a corrupted disc; try re-burning if necessary and use the verify function in ImgBurn).

Ok, it says there he downloaded the ISO file and burned to a cd/dvd (just like I did) It was when I put the dvd in the player and rebooted from that I got that message. It was into the installation for OS..

So guess I get the same message again when I try with the dvd...

Or did I miss the point here? hehe :)

Did you verify the image when you first burnt it? See my pervious post as I edited a few things.

Yes, I used the verify option. But I will try again on a new disc :)
