    Random BSODs and screen freezes

    Hi all,

    I've been getting Random BSODs and screen freezes no matter what I do, sometimes even at windows start-up as well. My PC would just freeze, processing light no longer blinks. The only thing is to press restart button on PC.

    I keep using Restore points to able to get through this few weeks.

    BSOD messages range from DRIVER IQRL NOT LESS OR EQUAL, BAD POOL HEADER and PAGE FAULT IN NON_PAGED AREA.

    I tried almost every thing, scan file, disk clean up, a FULL malware scan and even uninstall AVG and daemon tools, using Duplexsecure to remove sptd.sys (I thought that was the issue but 2 days later BSOD appears again)

    Months before this occured, my cmos battery went dead? resulting in date/time being reset but I believe this was non-related to the BSODs?

    Memory diagnostic tool managed to pick up a hardware error at first scan, but i was unable to find that report under Event viewer.

    My C:/windows/minidump has no files in it as well.

    Report attached. My PC is about 2-3 years old, using Windows 7 Ultimate 32 bit.

    ACPI x86 based PC P5KPL series
    Intel Core 2 Duo CPU E6750 2.66GHz
    2GB RAM
    Nvidia Geforce GTX 460
    D-Link DWA 125 Wireless 150 USB Adapter for router.

    I am at my wits' end. Thanks in advance and I appreciate any help/advice given :)

    No DMP files included in upload try this method

    We do need the DMP file as it contains the only record of the sequence of events leading up to the crash, what drivers were loaded, and what was responsible.

    If you are overclocking STOP

    You may be able to get the DMP files without crashing by booting into safe mode (F8) with networking.

    To enable us to assist you with your computer's BSOD symptoms, upload the contents of your "\Windows\Minidump" folder.

    The procedure:
    * Copy the contents of \Windows\Minidump to another (temporary) location somewhere on your machine.
    * Zip up the copy.
    * Attach the ZIP archive to your post using the "paperclip" (file attachments) button.
    *If the files are too large please upload them to a file sharing service like "Rapidshare" and put a link to them in your reply.

    To ensure minidumps are enabled:
    * Go to Start, in the Search Box type: sysdm.cpl, press Enter.
    * Under the Advanced tab, click on the Startup and Recovery Settings... button.
    * Ensure that Automatically restart is unchecked.
    * Under the Write Debugging Information header select Small memory dump (256 kB) in the dropdown box (the 256kb varies).
    * Ensure that the Small Dump Directory is listed as %systemroot%\Minidump.
    * OK your way out.
    * Reboot if changes have been made.

    Hi zigzag, thanks for your prompt reply.

    I did the required steps to ensure minidumps are enabled, BSOD-ed twice but inside the minidump folder, there are no files. I wonder why?

    The Small memory dump for my case is only 128kB instead of 256kB.

    Thank you for your assistance.

    There are several reasons that may prevent you from having a DMP file in the usual places.

    If you control panel is not configured for small dump you probably will then find it in C:\windows and it will be called MEMORY.dmp. It will overwrite every crash.

    Other reasons are if you have UAC turned off, if you have a small page file, or a page file on a different HD than the OS.

    Went home, boot up again and BSOD at startup. So I went to safe mode with networking. Still no dmps, not even memory.dmp.

    I went through eventvwr.msc and this is what I got;

    The following boot-start or system-start driver(s) failed to load:
    discache
    SASDIFSV
    SASKUTIL
    spldr
    Wanarpv6

    Thanks for your help.

    I have installed AVG9 previously but after I got those BSODs, I uninstalled it and if it boots into Windows OS normally, it displayed the message "Unspecified error in AVG
    Would you like to send Diagnostic Data to AVG Tech Support Dept for further analysis"

    As you appear to have AVG remnants remaining you could use their removal tool to{ hopefully} get rid of them.

    Download tools and utilities | AVG Worldwide

    I'll post any more updates on the BSODs soon after I have to chance to do this.
    Thanks JMH!
