    BSOD Plugging in USB device, error 0x3b


    Hi all!

    So I built my own PC late last year and have had absolutely no problems with it whatsoever, until my brother plugged in his JVC HD GC-FM2 camera. This camera is supposed to be able to be plugged into any PC without issue and without the need to install software/drivers, but for me it blue screens. I am able to plug in other USB devices just not this camera.

    I'm running Windows 7 Pro 64 bit, my computer is up to date, to the best of my knowledge anyway lol. I checked event viewer and if it's any help the relative event ID is 41. I've also attached all the needed documents.

    I've tried searching for a solution but to no avail. Any help would be greatly appreciated!

    The latest BSOD was probably caused by ntkrnlmp.exe.

    The 0x3B error is usually caused by a hardware device or it's corresponding driver. In this case, it'll be this camera of yours. Do the BSOD's only occur with the device plugged in? Or do the BSOD's just happen at random intervals?

    You will need to run an sfc/scannow command in an elevated command prompt. If errors are found, run it twice more with each scan followed by a reboot.

    You should then test your RAM using Memtest86+. Let it run until 6-8 passes have completed or errors have been found.

    Finally, enable Driver Verifier. However before you do, it is advised that you create a system restore point and backup first.

    You should also think about plugging your camera into another computer to see whether the camera is really at fault or if your computer is responding differently to the camera. However, only attempt this if you are not worried about getting BSOD's on the test computer; there is a risk that the problem from your computer may start on the test computer.

    Hi Jaidyn

    Yes the BSOD's only happen when I plug in the device and turn it on. I have run sfc /scannow and it was all clear, however at this point I don't have any external media to use to run memtest or to backup to prior enabling driver verifier, so I will try this sometime tomorrow and get back.
