What if you set the number of processors to 2 (the i5 only has two cores, so setting it to 4 is likely to cause problems) and leave memory unchecked?

When I set the number of processors at 2, windows just recognizes just 1 core, and my temps are up with 10 degrees.

I've done this setup for a cold boot to see if I get a BSOD.

Just one question, how can the system run on one core when the number is set at 2 ?

I'm not sure. Could be BIOS related, could be a bad processor, or it could be a bad motherboard. Try the following steps.

1. Go into the boot tab and advanced options and undo all changes so Windows is set to default settings (no checks in any boxes). Should look like this image:

2. Reboot your computer
3. Enter the BIOS
4. Clear the CMOS using Load Setup Defaults: How To Clear CMOS (Reset BIOS)
5. Exit and save changes.
6. Turn off the computer.
7. Unplug the AC Adapter and then the battery.
8. Hold down the power button for 30 seconds to close the circuit and drain all power from the system. For further reading on this: Use Hard Reset to Resolve Hardware and Software Issues HP Pavilion dv5000 Notebook PC series - HP Customer Care (United States - English) which applies to all computers, not just HP Pavilions.
9. Plug the battery back in and then the AC Adapter.
10. Turn on your computer and see if there is any difference during Windows boot.

I am also plagued with the cold-boot only BSOD. I'm not asking for specific help as nobody seems to have an answer. But I'm shocked at how many of us have this problem. And I cannot understand how it makes any sense for a machine to BSOD only on cold boots?

I also have an additional problem - i am unable to access my BIOS. Does not matter how many times I hit delete. Does anybody know what can cause a machine to be unable to access BIOS.

Cold boot problems are difficult to diagnose.

Have you been checking your temperatures?
Use Real Temp , to check the CPU temps when at idle, under load and/or testing.
Let us know the minimum and maximum temps you get.

Go to your BIOS and tell us what the CPU, RAM and the NB (North Bridge) voltages are.
This is important in order to make RAM settings adjustments.

My core temperatures seem extremely low - 26 degrees whilst running multiple apps, 22 when idle.

I've done the the BIOS reset.
Still with the cold boot I've got a BSOD.

Windows didn't save a minidum, but it was a 124 again.

Any other tests that I can try ?
