BUGCODE_USB_DRIVER - Random BSOD Crashes - Twice/Three Times Per Week

    Model - Toshiba Satellite A300-06H
    Upgraded From Vista x64 -> Windows 7 Ultimate x64
Age of System - 3 Years
Age of OS Installation - 1 Year

The past month I've been receiving random BSOD crashes, normally when a browser is opened, or a game is being played. Occasionally it happens by random without any browsers or games opened.

BSOD Viewer shows that it's caused by usbhub.sys and ntoskrnl.exe, although I assume that may not be accurate.

According to Speccy, my CPU's temperature idles between 55-60°C, my motherboard idles between 55-60°C, and my hard drive stays steady at around 50°C.

My CPU heats up a lot when used for more than an hour, around 65-70°C.

If anymore information is required, please let me know.

    Thank you

I note that malwarebytes and bitdefender are both running. Are these both full versions, or are you using the standalone scanner for malwarebytes? Having two full security systems that accomplish the same task can cause conflicts on a system.

    • Likely caused by a USB device conflicting with your system. Either it has an outdated/corrupted driver, it is conflicting with a device that is no longer used in the system, or the device itself is not functioning properly.

Start with the steps in USB Driver - General Fix for Problems and see if it resolves the problem.

If the general fix does not resolve it, it may be that the ports themselves are stuck in a bad power state and need to be reset. To reset the ports, follow these steps:
    1. Shut down and turn off your computer.
    2. Remove the AC Adapter then the battery from the laptop.
    3. Hold down the power button for 30 seconds to close the circuit and drain all residual power from components. This resets software/hardware connections with the BIOS and also fixes hardware that has entered a bad power state to protect itself from a power surge (especially USB devices).
    4. Replace the battery and then the AC adapter.
    5. Turn on the computer and see if devices now function properly.

If you still have problems after the above, begin narrowing down any usb devices that may have faulty hardware.

I also have an older Toshiba that is part of the Satellite series, and its idle temperatures are 60-65 C, and it maxes at around 75 C. This seems to be normal behavior for these systems to run hot.

I'm aware of conflicts in anti-spyware and antiviruses, and that's why I never run Malwarebytes at the same time Bitdefender is running, it's just installed to use in case it's needed.

I've tried everything you've said, and thus far, I've had no problems regarding BSODs. Thank you very much, I'm very hopeful that you've fixed my problem.

Alright, just wanted to make sure you knew about the possible antivirus conflict. Glad you were aware. :)

I am also happy to see the system is stable. Best of luck!

Is the system still responding well to the steps?
