Yes, if it did not cleanly uninstall, I would recommend doing both steps in Safe Mode if possible. Most likely, the install will not work in Safe Mode, in which case you will want to start Windows normally, uninstall the driver again after Windows automatically installs it, and then install the latest.

Uninstalling in Safe Mode should fix the corruption issue that is causing it to time out so you can follow the instructions properly in normal mode. Make sure when you uninstall in Safe Mode that you delete the driver software for the device by placing a tick in the box after clicking uninstall. That should guarantee corrupted drivers are removed.

    Hi,

I uninstalled the Broadcom driver in safe mode and deleted it (by ticking in the delete box), after that I installed the driver in normal mode and restarted, but I still get BSOD. So now I'm wondering about what to do...?

Upload the latest crash reports and we'll see what we can do. At least the Broadcom device does not seem to have driver corruption anymore.

Still point to the Broadcom driver. Try uninstalling the current version and install the original instead: Broadcom BCM57780 LOM
    1. First, download the original driver. Then do the next steps.
    2. Click Start Menu
    3. Right Click My Computer/Computer
    4. Click Manage
    5. Click Device Manager from the list on the left
    6. Expand network adapters
    7. Right click the Broadcom Ethernet device
    8. Click Uninstall (do not click OK in the dialog box that pops up after hitting Uninstall)
    9. Put a tick in Delete driver software for this device (if this option is available, otherwise just hit OK) and hit OK
    10. Restart your computer only if Windows asks you to.
    11. Install the original driver for the device.

    Alternatively:
    1. Login as an adminstrative user.
    2. First, download the original driver. Then do the next steps.
    3. Click Start Menu
    4. Click Control Panel
    5. Click Hardware and Sound
    6. Click Device Manager (the last link under Devices and Printers)
    7. Expand network adapters
    8. Right click the Broadcom Ethernet device
    9. Click Uninstall (do not click OK in the dialog box that pops up after hitting Uninstall)
    10. Put a tick in Delete driver software for this device (if this option is available, otherwise just hit OK) and hit OK
    11. Restart your computer only if Windows asks you to.
    12. Install the original driver for the device.

You'll never guess what caused the crashes...

I think at this point, we will just be going in circles, so I will suggest a Repair Install of Windows 7 and hope that does the trick. Open Official Windows 7 SP1 ISO from Digital River « My Digital Life and download Windows 7 Home Premium SP1-U ISO. Get the x64 version with your language, burn it to DVD, and use the Repair Install tutorial to repair your computer.
