Trying to restore laptop..wouldn't boot this morning..

I made a recovery disk from another laptop which allows me to go into the system recovery options. I chose the first option use recovery tools the can help fix problems starting windows. I selected window 7 and then a window came up saying "add drivers". it says insert the installation media for the device and click okay to select the drivers. However I am starting from a recovery disk and I'm not sure where to find the drivers it is asking for. The good news is that I can see that the hard drive is okay it's just the start up got corrupted. Can anyone advise me?

Normally no drivers are needed. All needed are already on recovery disk. Only in special cases for example hardware-raid you need to install extra drivers to recovery environment.

Just do a "startup repair" and tell me if and what error it finds. Click "view details" or "view diagnostics details" or somtehing like that. 0x0 means no problem at all. What errors does it find and does it fix it?

Do it 3 times with reboot in between

What happens if you start the laptop normally? Any BSOD or other errors? Tell exactly what happens

I realized it was 'pilot error' in that i clicked the find drivers button by mistake. Running repair now... Will return with more info...

Problem is that my drives got redesignated/renamed. How do i fix that?

You can do it in Control Panel/System & Security/Administrative Tools/Create & Format Hard Disk Partitions.

Right-click each drive you want to remap and give it a new drive letter.

Remember though, don't try and remap your Windows drive: it should always be the letter C.

Im still in disk repair mode... It hasnt booted per se. How would i reach these areas just looking at "my computer" say

disk repair mode? Are you refering to "startup repair" in recovery environment?

Yes, sorry. Windows boot manager came up requesting a startup disk saying some hardware is inaccessible. I made a system repair disk from another laptop i have here. Booted with it. Windows loaded files. System Recovery Options window. It searched for windows installations and found one... Windows 7 on disk "(D:) C:" . If i click "Load Drivers" then ok it starts an open file dialogue. Through that i could see all the partitions and data were intact but the drives renamed. I was even able to save some key files onto a backup drive. If i click out of that and highlight windows 7, click "Next" it starts the repair process but that doesn't fix the drive renamed issue.

So now the question really is how do i rename and if necessary mark as active the partitions back to what they need to be wwithout access to the usual internal tools? I have partion software on the computer but i dont know how it could help me now.
