The repair your computer method was just to allow you to backup your important files. Sadly, the drive itself could only be repaired in a laboratory with special equipment and would cost a lot more than just buying a new drive.

Is the drive still under warranty to try an RMA with the manufacturer?

I don't know.. I bought it from a shop like two months ago when I dropped my laptop and damaged the original hard disk..
I'll go to the shop again as soon as I can and see what I can do about this mess. I'm in France now and it's gonna cost me quite a bit more than back home. :/

Yeah, different countries have different warranty polices, so it depends on how long the warranty given through the shop was. Sorry to have to give you such bad news.

Windows won't boot past the Welcome sign

I found this works and is very simple. Press the power button until the system shuts down. Then restart the computer and once it boots to the sign-on point, just stop. Don't sign in, just let the computer sit for about 10-15 minutes. You can hear it running and just let it "boot up" completely. After about 10 or 15 minutes, then just sign in and this seems to work. Just need to give the computer time. Sometimes we are just too impatient and expect more from our computer than our memory can handle.
