Another Win 7 BSOD on Startup Story

I'm learning that the more I know about PCs, the less I really know. This PC has been running fine for about 6 months then.... The problem seems to be it won't shut down. It hangs and will sit there for a long period of time, then try to reboot and fail. Restore won't fix the problem, startup repair will.

I've run chkdsk & memory test both came out fine. I've pulled some ram out and moved the remaining ram to different slots - same problem. I'm lost now.
    Win 7 Ultimate - 64 - I bought this used so don't know version
    PC is 6 months old
    This is the only OS
    Nvida GTX470 GPU
    16GB Patriot 1600 ram
If you need anything else, please let me know.
Thanks in advance for sharing your expertise.

Can anyone recommend a good driver detector that's safe to use?

    Hi :)

Remove Avg from your system (for testing purposes).

Download and install Microsoft Security Essentials with windows firewall enable.

Update the software\driver for NEC Electronics USB 3.0 Host Controller (previous issues w/BSOD's)

Panais thank you for the help. I've done the AVG uninstall and downloaded MS Essentials. Scan was good.

I'm not sure which driver to install, their page is as clear as mud to me sorry. Can you tell me which one?

You will probably want to download them from your motherboard's support site. Can you fill in your system specs to make our job a little easier, please? You can use System Info - See Your System Specs as a guide to do so.

    Installed new USB 3.0 driver

I've installed the USB 3.0 driver from ASUS. The last three restarts have been successful so I'm not sure if it's fixed or not. I don't think I've had more than two successful attempts in the last week.

You guys have some great tools!

Is there anything else you want me to do? Thanks again for all the help!

    It Worked for a day

I shutdown and booted numerous times just fine and then BSOD. It always happens on shutdown. A note though, this time it booted back up in normal mode, I didn't have to do a repair. I'm attaching the text from the event viewer and the two files it references.

Any recommendations on a program to check the drivers? As I look through the forum it's clear you have to be careful.

Also I went to the ASUS site and found there is an update to my BIOS to improve "System Integrity". My ASUS Support disk got cracked during a move. I cannot find a way to download a new support disk to try the BIOS update. Suggestions???

I'll gladly take more suggestions. Thanks again!!

You don't need the disc to update your BIOS. You just need to download the BIOS version you want to update to from the BIOS portion of the downloads page and download the utility for updating in DOS from the BIOS-Utilities section of the download page. Warning: NEVER interrupt a flash when flashing the BIOS.

khanji, please start your own thread and upload that .rar file to your thread. You will get dedicated assistance that way. Also, follow the https://www.sevenforums.com/crashes-d...tructions.html to provide more information regarding your crashes.
