    Dazeon-

Thank you for staying with the thread all the way to the end.
Your efforts were not in vain, and I've seen your bugzilla referenced in many other websites.
I have been watching from the sidelines, and indeed the FireFox issue was the same for my x64 laptop.
I'm still using Chrome until this is totally resolved.

You may be correct about the clipboard issue applying to applications besides Firefox in the future.
Let's hope to see Microsoft's update soon.

Many thanks again to all SevenForums members involved for your vigilance.
I truly appreciate it and the relief it has given me.

For anyone else that is suffering from this bug WITHOUT Firefox, it is due to an issue with the clipboard and any context menu featuring the 'Paste' command.

Microsoft are working on an update.
Fantastic work and well done to everyone who helped track this bug down. Particular kudos to Dazeon for his work.

I have a brand new Windows 7 Pro 64-bit computer that does not have Firefox installed and Windows Explorer is always crashing.

There seems to be a bigger problem here.

When you clear the clipboard, the windows clipboard handling code will corrupt random process memory of applications that check if anything is on the clipboard.

Firefox was clearing clipboard on exit from private mode. My application was calling Clipboard.Clear() (csharp app). The display of the context menu is the exact moment when the corruption happens.

THe workaround is to not clear the clipboard. I replaced it with Clipboard.SetText(" "); No crashes since then.

Another workaround is to paste anything to clipboard, type some text from notepad, select and paste. This, at least prevents future corruptions, if you happen to have some program which clears the clipboard.

When this problem arose (again!) I recalled I recently undated SpyBot, so I completely un-installed that program, and now it is fixed
