BSOD = "Limited Access" on wireless network

Have you been able to repair the problems and boot into Windows, or do you require help doing so?

I was able to do a system restore and now the laptop is booting into windows just fine. Still having the "limited access" issue on my wireless connection. Unable to connect wired either.

When you uninstalled and re-installed the network drivers, did you follow these general steps exactly?

• To fully re-install a driver, use the following steps.
  
  1. First, download the latest driver. Then do the next steps.
  2. Click Start Menu
  3. Right Click My Computer/Computer
  4. Click Manage
  5. Click Device Manager from the list on the left
  6. Find the device you are trying to uninstall by expanding the appropriate set of devices
  7. Right click the device
  8. Click Uninstall (do not click OK in the dialog box that pops up after hitting Uninstall)
  9. Put a tick in Delete driver software for this device (if this option is available, otherwise just hit OK) and hit OK
  10. Restart your computer only if Windows asks you to.
  11. Install the latest driver for the device.
  
  
  Alternatively:
  
  1. Login as an adminstrative user.
  2. First, download the latest driver. Then do the next steps.
  3. Click Start Menu
  4. Click Control Panel
  5. Click Hardware and Sound
  6. Click Device Manager (the last link under Devices and Printers)
  7. Find the device you are trying to uninstall by expanding the appropriate set of devices
  8. Right click the device
  9. Click Uninstall (do not click OK in the dialog box that pops up after hitting Uninstall)
  10. Put a tick in Delete driver software for this device (if this option is available, otherwise just hit OK) and hit OK
  11. Restart your computer only if Windows asks you to.
  12. Install the latest driver for the device.

The drivers I was able to locate, that were previously suggested...yes. There were some highlighted ones (mandatory) (in red) that I was unable to find.

The most important on that list is probably the Atheros driver. First, download it from Atheros 2011 Wireless LAN Driver HP Pavilion dv4-2049wm Entertainment Notebook PC - HP Customer Care (United States - English)

Now, I will give some information that most do not know because they have not had an Atheros driver on their systems themselves or maybe they were just lucky not to have the problem that many have updating these drivers. The Atheros drivers for some reason cause problems in Windows. When you install them to overwrite the current drivers via the install package that vendors provide, they don't stick. I do not know why. Also, if a user tries to update them through device manager, for some reason, Windows informs the user that the system already has the most up to date drivers. Again, I do not know why. There is a special procedure that must be followed for these devices to update them properly.

Now that you have downloaded the latest Atheros package, here are the steps to install it so it sticks and actually updates the drivers for the device.

1. Click Start Menu
2. Right Click My Computer/Computer
3. Click Manage
4. Click Device Manager from the list on the left
5. Expand Network adapters
6. Right click the Atheros network device
7. Click Uninstall (do not click OK in the dialog box that pops up after hitting Uninstall)
8. Put a tick in Delete driver software for this device and hit OK
9. Do not restart your computer
10. Install the downloaded driver for the Atheros network device.

Alternatively:

1. Login as an adminstrative user.
2. First, download the latest driver. Then do the next steps.
3. Click Start Menu
4. Click Control Panel
5. Click Hardware and Sound
6. Click Device Manager (the last link under Devices and Printers)
7. Expand Network adapters
8. Right click the Atheros network device

10. Put a tick in Delete driver software for this device and hit OK
11. Do not restart your computer
12. Install the downloaded driver for the Atheros network device.

Followed your steps exactly. A window popped up that says, "This program might not have installed correctly"

There are two options to select:

- Reinstall using recommended settings

- This program installed correctly

Check the date on the driver through Device Manager. Open Device Manager using the steps in my previous post. Then right click on the Atheros device and click Properties. Go to the Driver tab and check the date and post back with the date you see.

Well the driver was gone, because I uninstalled it using your steps. This window popped up after I installed the Atheros driver that you put in the link from HP's site.

I attempted re-installing the driver, specifying a different folder for the driver to be in and I didn't get the window this time. The driver is now there(Atheros A5009 802.11a/g/n WiFi Adapter 2/24/2011); however now my laptop is not seeing any wireless networks.

That's odd. Try the steps again. If you still have problems, check for Windows corruption.

• Run SFC /SCANNOW Command - System File Checker up to three times to fix all errors with a restart in between each. Post back if it continues to show errors after a fourth run or if the first run comes back with no integrity violations.

So i repeated the steps. The driver installed just fine. It sees my wireless network. However, it is still saying "limited access" and I am unable to get online.
