Windows 7: BSOD - random occurance - 0x000000F4, atapi.sys, ntfs.sys

W7 Home Premium x64

Full solution:

W7 disk, and what do you know the repair wizard doesn't detect my Windows partition, and doesn't see my System Reserved partition either.

>command prompt

D:/> cd boot
D:/boot/> BOOTREC /scanos

Then it tells me it doesn't find my OS.

D:/boot/> bootsect /nt60 SYS /force
"element not found"

>boots SPINRITE.exe
>system reserved partition has indeed been corrupted
>try repairan
>unknown error

Spinrite sees my Windows partition, but not the system reserved one. I can see the directories and the files on my hard drive, but i can't do anything to them. At this point i'm about ready to abandon, format, and lose everything not already backed up. BUT THEN, it hit me like a pimp slaps his hoe:

I was using the SATA cables that came with my motherboard, DON'T EVER DO THAT. Half of them are faulty or become faulty after very little time.

So i went to the store and bought $4,99 worth of SATA cables, did this:
After using a partition tool in UBCD to copy-paste the MBR from another hard drive onto a new system-reserved partition, i went back to the W7 repair tools, opened command prompt.

then going back to the W7 DVD:
D:/> cd boot
D:/boot/> bootrec /rebuildbcd
D:/boot/> bootsect /nt60 SYS /force

After over 4 hours, ALL GOOD!
Faulty SATA cables killed my Partition Table and MBR.

Glad you found the solution. :) I assume this was prior to my post, but it does confirm my suspicions. Nice troubleshooting and well done!
