Patience mate...we can't always reply to threads instantly, especially while we're sleeping.

Don't worry about clean installing any more...it's not going to help. You have a hardware problem apparently, and it will keep showing up no matter what OS you use (XP, Vista, 7, 8, Linux).

Macs should be able to burns ISOs to discs natively; I've done it myself a few times. Download the ISO from the Memtest86 link, and then follow these directions:

Mac Tip: How to burn an .iso or .dmg file to disc

Run Memtest86 to help narrow down which piece of hardware is faulty.
Thanks Jonathan. Was about to go to bed (10 pm Monday here). Have begun the Memtest86. So far no errors (10 minutes). Will leave it on overnight, and look at it in 8/9 hours time. The BSOD message I have been getting is too quick to get info, but it begins 'Page fault in non-paged area'.
Well, it's now 6:15 am. The Memtest has run for over 8:30. Std test, pass 7, errors 0.
I will Esc and start the next one - Prime 95. BTW, when i reinstalled, I didn't reformat partition 1 on C. Whilst trying to go to sleep I thought that could be where the boot partition is installed, and maybe I have left the original one there, causing it to boot from old settings, or some confusion at boot up?

Not a good sign that prime95 failed.
What were your CPU core temps when you ran prime95?

Have you been checking your CPU core temperatures?
Use Real Temp , to check the CPU temps when at idle, under load and/or testing.
Let us know the minimum and maximum temps you get.
Use Real Temp when running any applications from the Windows OS.
The max CPU core temp from Intel is 77.6°C, if your CPU goes above this temp you should stop the test and let us know.

After you run memtest86+ for 7 full passes, overnight, let us know the results.
You can stop the test if you get any errors, one error is too many.

Then you can run the Intel Processor Diagnostic Tool.
Be sure to monitor the CPU core temps with Real temp while running this test.
The Prime 95 didn't seem to be resetting to original screen/layout. I tried changing window options, but in the end gave up. At the last stage , core 4 didn't seem to be running. Will give it another go.

OK it is running properly now. Will monitor temps at same time.

Am running Prime95, large FFTs. Temps all seem ok, getting to max 74C, up to test 9 on each core. As in my previous (#71) post, I wonder if I made an error in my reinstall, by not reformatting partition 1 on C drive before starting? If so, I might have to redo.

Don't worry about not formatting the C partition. Typically, the only time it matters is in the case of severe malware infection.

Given Core 4 seems to have failed both times, I'd suspect the problem is with the CPU. If the CPU is under warranty, RMA it, or return the whole computer. If you don't have a warranty, we can try underclocking the 4th core, which will result in a slight (unnoticeable?) performance cut but may stop the BSODs.

    • Boot into the BIOS setup
    • Find MB Intelligent Tweaker(M.I.T.) > Advanced Frequency Settings > Advanced CPU Core Features
    • Set Real-Time Ratio Changes In OS to Disabled (it should already be, but make sure).
    • Set Turbo Ratio(4-core) to 20 or so.

When done, run Prime95 again, see if you get any errors this time. If so, report which core had the error and which test you were running at the time. If that doesn't help, we can try bumping up the CPU voltage a little, but we should use care in that.

Core 4 seems to be running very happily after 1 1/2 hours on large FFT test on core95. I suspect problem running it might have been a nut loose on the keyboard (i.e. me). Currently all workers are on test 17 (576K) and no problems are apparent. That being so, it seems unneccessary to make changes above. temps are running at 71, 72, 74, 75 in cores 1-4. Max reached 73, 76, 76, 73, from Core Temp. Speed Fan seems to be normal also. Can you get anything useful from a minidump or another events log file if I post them?

If hardware is indeed the problem, the software logs won't doing us much good. If you want, you can throw up a jcgriff2 report, but I'll just be honest, I probably won't look into it.

Try running the Small FFTs Prime95 test for a couple of hours now; that tends to be a bit tougher on the CPU when we use it for torture testing overclocks.

    crashed again

Thanks Jonathan. Won't post any more reports for now. Just returned to find computer had shut down and restarted again. It had seemed to be running well in Prime95. Will try the small fft test again and leave it running until something happens. Just remembered I haven't run the Intel test. OOps, screen just began rotating. Hope that's a part of the Intel test. yep, it is.

I thought I had posted a reply to say that the Intel test passed. Am now running small FFT test. All workers are on par, and temps are all OK.

Still running OK after more than an hour. No high temps, max 72, 76, 75, 72: currently 70-74. Will leave it running a while longer as have to go out and shop.
