Post these files so we can analyse them again, whether or not you've had a crash recently.

Let us know if you have had any crashes.
Here are the reports. No crashes since yesterday (mentioned earlier). Wrong date on perfmon title (14 May today here not 15). Haven't been able to do Windows Update for IE9, or NET.Framework, however a windows update has been successful. Regards.
Has crashed again since last message.

See post 2 dated April 2, 2012. We advised you to remove Norton then. You are still using bit of it and still having trouble.

It was blamed for 2 of the 3 most recent.

    Good Luck

Have already removed it. See previous post 6 hours ago. Still stumped about Windows update.

Agree with zigzag, Norton caused that last couple of crashes.

If you get another crash, post the full Blue Screen of Death (BSOD) Posting Instructions
We need to compare it with previous crashes.

Some 24 hours later, and no indication of BSOD, although Event Viewer has a few messages about 18 hours ago relating to Restart Manager (Dolby, Marvell, sidebar, explorer, etc.) all with message such as "Log Name: Application

Also, Windows Update still refuses to install IE9, and .NET Framework update. Let me know if you want more info.

Thursday 17 May 9:15am: Once again there were overnight 'activities' at about 3 AM, same as before. Restart Manager bringing up messages. I had changed the Power settings so computer would sleep after 5 hours, that was at 10pm. No BSOD messages. Are these things 'normal' for Widows 7? Maybe they were happening in XP and I wasn't aware of them?

Warnings are normal. Event Viewer is more detailed since Windows Vista; XP never really explained what the problems were that occurred or why and just gave generic messages. If you were getting errors, then I would say you had a right to be concerned.

In terms of the warning, what it means is that Windows was unable to restart the application referred to after updating Windows. You now are urged to restart the computer in order for that application to function properly again. Obviously, you can choose not to restart, but the affected application may not function as intended. I am guessing you have your advanced sleep settings to allow tasks to wake the computer and an update was installed. The update may have been a Windows update or an application update, but whichever it was, it affected a program that could not be restarted without asking the user to restart the whole system.

Thanks for that. Yes, Update was configured to check at 3AM. Can you offer any help with the updates to Internet Explorer 9 which won't install, as well as a security update KB2468871 to .NET Framework, which likewise will not install. I have tried everything I can find, including Fixits that don't fix it. My son-in-law who is much more savvy than I tried various registry changes. Since then some updates to .NET Framework have worked and some to other applications, but not IE9 installation.
