Random freezes/lockups

I've had this system working fine for a year or so bit it is causing problems for a while now and it is getting really on my nerves. So to jump right in these are my specs:

Windows 7 home permium 64bit updated from vista
Intel core i7 920 2.67Ghz
6MB RAM
Nvidia GeForce GTX 275
Gigabyte EX58-UD4P


I have formated it still no luck.
It freezes at startup or later on seems random to me, I have Chrome, Skype/teamspeak and League of Legends running most of the time. When it freezes all sounds will repeat for a short time and then continue for about 5 seconds.

Help would be appriciated!

If formatting didn't do the trick and it's still causing problems for you, then it's most certainly hardware issues. It's just a matter of figuring out exactly what hardware it is.

I am unable to read the syslogs because they're in a different language, but I can use the two crashdumps. One reported your video card drivers (or video card itself) timing out. Note that this doesn't exactly mean there's a problem with it, as something else could've been holding them up. The other crashdump is a bit more interesting. It shows what appears to be a shift of two bytes in one of your CPU's registers. I cannot ascertain how this happened without access to at least a full kernel dump of the scenario. However, it does kinda lead me to believe it's hardware-based.

Here's a battery of tests you can use to try and narrow down cause:


RAM: Memtest86+ - 7+ passes
CPU: Prime95 - Torture Test; Large FFTs; overnight (9+ hours)
GPU: MemtestCL - Run twice (if any of the tests work on your GPU)
Drives: Seatools - All basic tests aside from the Fix all or the advanced ones.

All of these (excluding MemtestCL) are included in the UBCD if you prefer a Live CD environment (which is the best environment to test hardware on). Note that Prime95 currently does not work on the UBCD. Also, please provide us temps/voltages using HWInfo with Sensors only option checked. Log two 30-minute instances: one for idle, and one for high load. Preferably if you can get system to crash in high load let it log until crash.

Hmm, if the lag spike was not a condition that repeats itself it may just be a solitary fluke and is most likely not conducive of any existing problems.
