    LogonUI.exe bad image


    Hello, I was trying to get rid of the windows 7 login image following a tutorial. I did it but then when I tried to login it would let me and kept conning up with this error message. The file I was editing was authui.dll which I have a backup of but is no use because I can't logon. please help ASAP

    Ps I thought about installing another OS to a usb and editing it through that ,but have no access to another computer...

    Restore your backup using a live Linux boot cd or if you have the Windows 7 DVD read this Copy & Paste - in Windows Recovery Console or if you press F8 on bootup and can boot the "Repair your computer" option and then use the cmd window. If you not familiar with the cmd line you can also run Notepad and click File > Open and copy the same way in the link above. Type notepad at the cmd line and press enter to open it.

    What's a live Linux boot cd I don't think I have any and windows came built in on my laptop so I don't have any windows 7 DVDs

    Tried the repair method but I won't let me acces my c: drive from notepad that's where the system 32 folder and backup file is...

    The problems now solved, windows was wrongly labeled d: for some reason but I managed to get to it and fix everything ,thanks for helping :)

    As an FYI as to why the Recovery Environment drive letters were different: See the image. The black drive letters are what are seen in Windows Explorer. The Recovery Environment sees the red letters because it labels starting with the first partition.

    Not really sure if "live Linux boot cd" is the correct naming but I was referring to a copy of linux that allows you to boot linux from a cd and use it without installing it.

    Always handy to have a copy laying around. I use Ubuntu.
