    System Freeze Occurring Randomly

    Hi all,

The last couple of weeks I've been having this issue where my computer will freeze/lock-up hard. And by hard I mean that I can't launch the Task Manager, move the mouse cursor, or anything...it's completely unresponsive. To get the machine working again I have to physically restart it using the Power button or the Reset button.

I initially thought that it was overheating, so I opened up the case and gave it a good cleaning with a compressed air duster and verified that the fans worked properly. No dice. I then reformatted and reinstalled Windows. Again, no luck...the issue just keeps happening. I ran MemTest overnight, and that came through clean. I haven't found any issues from Disk Check, and MSE comes back with a clean report.

At this point, I'm at my wits' end. Any help would be greatly appreciated, as I just don't know what to do at this point. Here are my system specs:

    Windows 7 Professional x64, Retail
    Core2 Quad Q6600 @ 2.4GHz
    Asus P5K SE/EPU
    6 GB RAM
    nVidia Geforce 9800 GT
    2x 500 GB HD, 1x 320 GB HD

Last, but not least, I ran a System Health Report that's attached to this post. I took a look through it, and I'm a little confused by some of the errors it found. Namely, I don't have a PS/2 keyboard; my printer is working just fine; I've uninstalled LogMeIn, and I have MSE installed. The Health Report seems to be...wrong?

Thanks so much for your help.

Go through the steps for Troubleshooting Steps for Windows 7

       Warning
Some of the steps require that you open up your system, so before doing any of the re-seating and connection checking steps, answer these two questions: Are you still under warranty? Does your warranty allow you to open up the machine to check hardware? If you are unsure of the answers to these questions, contact your system manufacturer. WARNING: Some steps in that tutorial involve removing the system case or system panels and can void your warranty!!!

The steps specifically related to the warning are steps 8, 10, and 11.

The system health report gives some erroneous information. If you provide the system logs and info from the https://www.sevenforums.com/crashes-d...tructions.html, they can help to sort out where the health report is giving misleading info. Even though you are not having a blue screen crash, those instructions also provide the Event Viewer logs that can indicate problems that cause freezing.

I went through the Troubleshooting Steps as you recommended, and here are the results:

    1. Malwarebytes shows no infection.
    2. MSE shows no infection.
    3. Clean boot shows nothing new, and issue persists after clean boot.
    4. Event Viewer: The last log before the system crash is:
    5. WEI is 5.9, same as before the issue occurred.
    6. No solutions.
    7. Nothing of note.
    8. Memtest86+ shows no errors.
    9. HD shows no errors after diagnostics.
    10. All cabling and hardware is confirmed secure.
    11. RealTemp currently shows a temperature between 57 and 50 degrees. This is after a canned air cleaning.
    12. Device Manager shows no errors.
    13. Display driver is current.
    14. N/A, no factory-installed software.
    15. Going to run SFC / SCANNOW momentarily.

I have also attached the Dump Files requested by the BSOD thread. Any additional insight would be really great.

    Thanks again!

I completed the System Scan, and: "Windows Resource Protection did not find any integrity violations."

Additionally, Event Viewer does say that VSS idled out right before the freeze. Thoughts?

Due to your older hardware, check your hardware compatibility with Windows 7: Windows 7 Compatibility: Software Programs & Hardware Devices: Find Updates, Drivers, & Downloads

I see a lot of errors related to LogMeIn and also a lot of errors due to your backup software.

Are you using any 3rd party backup software? It does not appear you are, but I thought I would check.

If you are not using any 3rd party backup software, try disabling Windows' backup when you are not using it and see if that provides more stability: Backup User and System Files - Reset to Default Configuration

    Thanks for taking a look!

I've uninstalled LogMeIn, hopefully that will help the situation.

Also, I do use a 3rd party backup solution: CrashPlan. Should I do ahead and disable Windows' backup anyway?

With LogMeIn uninstalled and Windows Backup disabled, I'm still having system freezes. I also checked the hardware, and everything is compatible with Windows 7.

Have you removed CrashPlan? It is the most likely culprit based on the behavior seen in the logs. You should remove it to at least test whether the system is then stable.

I have the same problem and have tried the same solutions. Did removing Crashplan solve your problem?
