BSOD after installing Intel Graphics 3150 drivers, error 0x0000007f

    Hello there,

I am new to the forums, so please excuse me for any rules I might break. I've read them all and as far as I know abide by them, but you never know.

The following problem is bothering me a lot:
Ever since my netbook crashed and I decided to reinstall Windows a week ago I am unable to install my video drivers: Intell Graphics Media Accelerator 3150. Whenever I do this (by using windows update or by downloading the drivers from ASUS) and I restart my netbook I get a blue screen with error 0x0000007f. When I look in the Event Viewer (after installing the driver via windows update I get the following errors:

    EventID/Source
    1001/BugCheck
    41/Kernel-Power
    6000/Winlogon
    10005/DistributedCOM (four times)
    7026/Service Control Manager

After installing the driver using the drivers from the ASUS website:
    6008/EventLog
    41/Kernel-Power
    1101/EventLog
    7001/Service Control Manager (eighteen times)
    7026/Service Control Manager
    1001/BugCheck
    6000/WinLogon
    10005/DistributedCOM (six times)

I fix this problem by going in to safe mode and uninstalling the same drivers again. After that I can restart Windows and everything is back to normal again.

    System Specs:
    Netbook ASUS 1005PE
    Windows 7 Starter 32 bit
Reinstalled version of Windows 7 (not OEM anymore)
Processor: Intel Atom CPU N450 @1.66 Ghz (2CPUs)
    Directx version: Directx 11
Memory: Kingston 800 Mhz 2 GB
Screen Resolution: 800 x 600 (should get bigger after installing video drivers)
System hardware approximately 3 years old

I am thinking about download the graphics drivers from the Intel site and try to install them. But, the fact that Intel is advising against that worries me.

    Thanks for any help given!

    Ronald

Very curious, in each and every crashdump the generic monitor driver showed up as the cause, and all from the same function (monitor!BrightnessTargetToPercentage+32), which is evident it's dealing with altering the brightness of the monitor, probably during a power-saving operation (like when the cable is unplugged or something else triggers the monitor to dim or brighten). I kinda wanna suspect that Windows didn't install great all the way.

If you want, you can go into device manager and go to your monitor and delete the driver for it. It should then automatically recover the driver from its local driver repository. Then, go to the Asus website and look for any updates for your chipset/motherboard/cpu drivers, as well as monitor, BIOS, and finally the graphics. Once you install the graphics drivers, hopefully it'll work this time.

If that doesn't work, you should run Disk Check (both options) followed by SFC Scan. Remember to run the SFC scan from whatever you used to install Windows (USB/DVD) by entering the Recovery Environment from there. Running it from the Recovery Environment hosted on your drive will not work.

If none of those comes up with anything, and you're still getting an issue when installing the graphics drivers, then I have to assume we're dealing with faulty hardware here. I mean, you did reinstall Windows because your system was crashing, so whatever was crashing it before the reinstall most likely is what is causing it now: hardware failure.

Ok, I tried to do what you said.
First I uninstalled the monitor driver. Then went to the ASUS website to look for updates. I only found the drivers for my chipset, BIOS and of course the video drivers. So I ran the chipset and BIOS update. Afterwards I ran the video driver update and restarted my netbook. Unfortunately I got the same error: 0x0000007f.

I wonder If I am doing something wrong by not finding the motherboard, cpu and monitor drivers. Here is the page to look: ASUSTeK Computer Inc. -Support- Drivers and Download Eee PC 1005PE

I continued by doing a disk check. As far as I can tell there are no serious problems. Take a look please:

    Checking file system on C:
The type of the file system is NTFS.

A disk check has been scheduled.
Windows will now check the disk.

As for the SFC Scan, I am not able to do it. I am currently travelling in Malaysia. When my netbook crashed and I wanted to reinstall windows I couldn't do it myself because I didn't have the recovery USB stick. I went to a computerstore and asked if they could do it for me. So they did. When I found out my netbook still had problems I had travelled somewhere else. So in order to do the SFC Scan I need to have the USB stick which I don't have. Is there any other way to do it?

My major concern with this problem is the resolution. It's a pain in the ass to browse the internet like this. Is there any other way to change the resolution to 1024 x 600?

Another thing I forgot to mention was that I am also unable to install Windows 7 SP1 update. I keep getting the 800F0818 error code. I won't give all the details in this post, but I wonder if you think this problem is related to my graphical driver issue?

    Thanks again!

Unfortunately without the video drivers there's no way to change resolution as you're defaulting to software-driven graphics drawing (the CPU) as opposed to using the video controller. What concerns me is as soon as you install the drivers immediately the issue pops up because now Windows is utilizing your video controller's gpu to perform the graphics drawing. I'm concerned we may be dealing with a hardware failure here.

As for the Windows update, you'll want to run the Readiness Tool for Windows Update and send the log results to us. Often the 800F0818 error code is caused by corrupt files within the package that need to be fixed.

Hi, if you need assistance, your best option is to start your own thread and link to this one as a reference. Make sure to provide information as instructed here. Also when you do so, make sure to mention if you happened to perform anything I recommended in this thread (like the SFC scan, the Readines Tool, etc). The more details you can provide, the better. Thanks.

Just to let you guys know:
I brought my netbook to an asus service center. They had a look at it and concluded that I had a faulty motherboard. I told them that I just had problems with the graphic drivers, but they wanted to install a new motherboard. Probably the only solution anyway since I got an onboard videochip. Anyway, I had to pay 150 euro to replace the motherboard. I didn't want to pay that much money. My netbook is 3 years old and costed my 300 euro, so it's just too much money for an old machine.

Worst of all they left me with an 0x0000007B error code. Luckily I was able to fix this problem by changing the BIOS settings back to AHCI.

Just my 2 cents. Good luck!
