You have to open a text editor and drag the .scr into it to open one unless you have notepad++ installed then you can open from right-click....and then edit/save w/e.

Yep, just did a drag and drop of one of the earlier files into NotePad, saved as another scr and still no lock.

How do the files appear in Windows Explorer when you click on the folder containing your scr file(s)? What's listed under file type?

    What's the "w/e" for?

I've opened, renamed, saved, saved as, at least four or five times. Even copies of real scr files. No problem with locks, edits, saves. Although, as expected, the copies of the real scr files (actual screensaver files) no longer work as screensavers after the saves.

If the "w/e" stands for "with extension", never mind the question.

That seems odd, though I'm glad that fixes it for you.

The current default association for scr file types on my system is "unknown application".

It was..but I guess when that is the association in defaults to screen saver that you see in explorer. I'm glad too. Take care :)
