that could as well mean that all the event 41's and 6008's i keep having(had 3 or 4 in the last hour or so) could be coming from the ram.

thanks a lot for all your input - i'll continue testing and see how it goes
fwiw - i have an asus p5n-t deluxe here and an asus p5q-e - which will be the last resort to check if it is mobo problem or ram

Just FYI - I have seen some issues with the Asus P5 series of boards when using the Auto settings in the BIOS.
Please ensure that you have the proper timings/settings/voltages available from OCZ - and manually put them into the BIOS.

Here's my old canned speech about it:
FWIW - I've seen a lot of issues with the Asus P5 series of boards. I usually recommend this:
    - DO NOT use the AUTO setting for memory. Go to the RAM manufacturer's website and get the recommended settings for the RAM. Then set those settings manually in the BIOS
    - one person with a 2009 BIOS has experienced success by updating the BIOS. This is dangerous and one simple mistake can easily damage your motherboard so it won't work. Be VERY, VERY CAREFUL!!!
    - one person reports bad caps ( Badcaps.net - How To Identify ) in this post: [SOLVED] Bad overclock and now can't load windows 7 - Tech Support Forum

Well it seems it was the motherboard slowly dieing after all - probably the NB was at its last days.
I installed one of the spare boards i had yesterday, did clean install, and pc has been stress tested for the last 20 hours both at default clocks and slight overclocks and no problem whatsoever.

    Thanks again for your help
