Yeah, you should tinker with the UPnP/SSDP services later when you do not have time-critical work to be done that relies on networked devices like your printer. Fortunately the services should be able to easily turn back on when the need arises.

Btw, one thing I forgot to mention is that SSDP and UPnP services should be set to Manual before you restart the PC after disabling them, otherwise they'll restart themselves at Windows startup. Right-click and go to properties for each one to set them from Automatic start type to Manual or even Disabled if desired.

As for a mobo, I'll have to look into it.

Any luck looking up a replacement MoBo?

This box has been sitting on my desk mocking me for a few months now and I just want to use it as it was intended...

    Thanks!

I'm sorry mate, this thread slipped past me as things have become rather busy. This evidently has not been the first time.

I'm afraid I don't have that much time right now either to go shopping, as motherboards can be rather meticulous since you have to consider RAM and CPU compatibilities. Your best bet is to go on Newegg and first look up all mobos that involve the socket type for your CPU and is in your price range, then google their RAM support lists to see if they'll jive with yer current RAM. The specific model doesn't have to be listed, per se, just the timings, speed and size of each stick. All that info is typically referred to in the model name for RAM sticks (hence why the model names are so long).

Sorry I could not assist you further on this, and that I've left you hanging. Good luck on the motherboard, and I sure hope it resolves your case!

    Well, here's an interesting development...

Might be a coincidence... Might not

About a week ago, my Wireless router in the house decided to start acting up. I could connect to it with a lap top and phones, but no internet signal. It's a Belkin F5D8236-4 Wireless N Router.

I tried all I could to get it working again, including a hard factory reset. I'd plug it in and the Modem Light would blink orange as if there was some communication error.

Fed up I decided to buy a new Router - New one is Belkin N750 Dual-Band.

On a whim, I turned the problematic desktop and so far, it seems those network gremlins have gone away. at least the first few files I've downloaded came down like a champ.

You think a bad flaky wireless router elsewhere on the network ( not directly connected to the desktop) could have cause all these problems?

Do you recommend a good test to verify this?

I would not doubt it in the least. As for testing to verify, we tried everything we could and I could only pinpoint it to an issue regarding UPnP/SSDP services. However I couldn't tell from the data collected whether it originated from the router itself or the system, but figuring that when changing ports and all didn't help, I thought it would most likely be the PC. Having some form of logs from the router would've helped clarify things, but those aren't particularly easy to extract from most routers. Nevertheless, it sounds like it was indeed the router going foul. Glad to hear it, mate.

I appreciate all your help on this.

For now I am going to mark this string as "Solved" and keep and eye on it.

Who'd a thought that the original RAM Voltage mismatch would be covering up the bad router (and vice versa)

Thanks again for everything Vin, James, Dwarf & Dave
