    fresh install then plugged in mouse, froze, wont boot again.


    Hello,

    I have an first gen HP envy 15 with a new HDD thanks to the gf dropping it and the HD breaking...

    I installed Ubuntu to one partition then used GPart to make a NTFS partition. I installed x64 home premium (what was originally on it), got it updated to current, put some software back on it and then plugged in a Microsoft Wireless Mouse 4000. As soon as I plugged in the dongle, the system became unresponsive, HDD light not active at all. I held down the laptop power button until it powered off (I had no other choice) and then upon restarting it windows will not boot. It will not boot to safe mode either. Safe mode freezes during classpnp.sys.

    Should I just fresh install again? Recovery tools was worthless at least in how I know to use that portion of windows installer

    Windows 7 fails to go into safe mode. Stuck at classpnp.sys may help.

    A fresh install may also help. I wonder if your USB ports are in a protected power state. USB ports can sometimes enter a safe power state to protect the system from power surges due to USB devices. To reset the USB ports to a nominal power state:
    1. Shut down and turn off the computer.
    2. Unplug the computer from the wall or surge protector (then remove the battery if it is a laptop).
    3. "Remove the computer from any port replicator or docking station, disconnect
      cables to printers or devices such as external monitors, USB memory sticks or SD cards, headset or external speakers, mouse or auxiliary keyboard, turn off WIFI and Bluetooth wireless devices." (Use Hard Reset to Resolve Hardware and Software Issues HP Pavilion dv5000 Notebook PC series - HP Customer Care (United States - English))
    4. Hold down the power button for 30 seconds. This closes the circuit and ensures all
      power from components is drained to clear the software connections between the BIOS
      and hardware and clear any corruption in the temporary memory.
    5. (If it is a laptop, plug the battery back into the laptop and then) Plug the computer back into the wall. Do not reconnect any unnecessary peripherals; monitor, keyboard,
      and mouse should suffice and be the only peripherals reconnected.
    6. Turn it on to reinitialize the software connections between the BIOS and hardware

    I actually followed that tutorial to a T (from the first link) and it didn't work so I just fresh installed. Thank you for taking the time to respond to my post.

    It now triple boots Windows 7, 8 and Ubuntu 64 bit 12.04.

    Marked! I never really solved the problem in the sense that it cant be solved now that my install has been overwritten. but I'm very very happy with how the laptop is running these days.

    Sometimes a fresh install or factory recovery is the best way to solve a problem. Glad you are happy.

Trying to install Win 7 Home Premium 32 bit on a 60Gb partition of SSD (the other partition has Win 8.1 installed and working). Windows loads the files off the disk, logon screen with mouse pointer comes on, but no keyboard or mouse function. Both are USB devices connected through the PS2 ports. ...
So I reinstalled windows 7 on my laptop everything was fine restarted several times to install updates, drivers etc. But then the next day when I try to turn it on it simply does not get past the windows logo it just freezes restarts then ends up on launch repair. So the day I reinstall its fine...
AOTBE, this doesn't happen at all when I have a normal PS2 KB/Mouse plugged in. However when I replace that with USB KB/Mouse there is a problem. This has been happens whether I use my Logitech USB KB with Logitech Mouse. And the same with Razer KB and Razer Mouse. So I'm presuming this happens...
Before I installed the new OS, the computer wont boot up, then i formatted it and installed fresh same original OS, then after first use it was fine, the next day while im using the laptop suddenly blue screen appeared and the same problem comes up again....:( Any help would be appreciated......
I cant figure this one out and wont stop till i do. I create a desktop from various used and new piece all working and good. I have a asus p5q motherboard with intel 2.66ghz 775chipset and pny 1 gb crap ram. i update the bios to latest version and i believe everythings running good on that end....
