Desktop refuses to boot properly after shutdown

    Hi!

Backstory: Was playing a game of league of legends fullscreen and I noticed some random freezes. Eventually, it just closed itself. Then other programs began closing on their own too, as if my pc was restarting, so I just turned it off and turned it back on

Now on the bootup, it just says Starting Windows and just stays there for a very long time without doing anything. It eventually just restarts and tells me to try going into startup repair. I tried going into startup repair, and left it going overnight, but it just sat there in a loop and never did anything.

I also tried Safe Mode, but it loaded a bunch of files and stopped at atipcie64.sys. I'm not sure what happened to my pc and I'm running out of ideas. Anyone heard of something like this before?

    Thanks.

    Hello CountC :) Welcome aboard.

First you try Startup Repair , as described in the link. Run it three separate times, with restarts in between every single run.

After that, try SFC /SCANNOW : Run in Command Prompt at Boot .

Let us know what is the situation after that.

    Thanks for the assistance!

I just tried the Repair My Computer method and I get a screen with the blue windows 7 background and my mouse pointer. Nothing else. Just the background. When I try using a recovery disc or similar, I get the same screen.

As you said, you cannot boot into safe mode too, right ?

First , check that if your RAM working properly or not. RAM - Test with Memtest86+

If ram works properly, the repair from CD/DVD should run properly.

And, as it is not running the repairs, read the detailed steps described here, too .

Hi, thanks for the help. I fixed it. Made a new Ubuntu disc, used the terminal to fix some corrupted sectors on my HD, and the startup repair worked fine afterwards.
