Photoshop Causes Blue Screen Crash

I was awake all night with this sciatica problem, and in-forum up until 11am yesterday, with not seeing any responses from you I packed it in until now.

I have two MAJOR real estate photo project to work on ASAP so I’d like to attempt reinstall ASAP. ( and I was just handed a third as I was writing this.
After the uninstall do we need to do a system check or anything before we attempt to reinstall? It seems so so please stand by tonight.

I understand your urgency i.e. deadlines, I had them when I worked Production for the local Newspaper.

Okay! I'll respond to the last three posts, and then we'll get on with the CS2 install...

These phrases were crossed out but my question still remains. Is there any info we need to pull from the current version of Photoshop while it’s still installed? I just want to make sure we’ve got all our ducks in a row.

The 24 digit code # you saw by the Photoshop CS2 listing in the Belarc report is what you need. Thanks for removing those files, the Belarc report was the most sensitive with having all those software licenses on it.

When I was deleting the listed registry files I found, many did not exist. I presume that's normal as is says in the instructions, not all files may exist for every user?

As writhziden stated that is normal.

What is the next step in our game plan?
Reinstall Photoshop? Or run a scan first to see where the problem lies? It would be a shame to reinstall just to have the same problem.

I don't think we'll need to run any more scans; the SFC scan, found, and corrected a problem, the other two scans were okay.
You were able to install Belarc without any error codes, and you report that your machine is running okay.

The uninstall looks like it completed well. Glad to see it. And yes, some items may not be there depending on the version of Windows and the version of Photoshop, I imagine.

Prologue:

I took the time to read through all eight pages of Windows 7 is not compatible with Adobe Photoshop CS2 - Microsoft Answers, and the following is condensed mainly from Ciniti, and GrimJim's posts, those steps, and any quotes will be attributed to the Microsoft Answers Link.

The Belarc report was helpful in that it shows what version of Windows 7 you have dollanganger.
Windows 7 Professional (x64) Service Pack 1 (build 7601)

   Note

I am assuming some steps in the following installation if they are not correct, please go over them, and ask before starting.

• Place the Adobe Photoshop CS2 disk into your CD/DVD player.

• After Autorun goes through its initial startup It may open up, and bring bring you to D:\ Adobe Photoshop CS2.

• Scroll down until you see setup.exe, right click on it, click on the Compatibility Tab, and make sure the two lower boxes highlighted in red are checked, and the middle one says Windows XP Service Pack 3 .

Attachment 212391 Click Apply then OK.

• Let Setup run. Okay the EULA, and any other Customizations.

• When it gets to where it will be installed on your HDD, click on Browse it should highlight where it wants to install, But you want to copy/paste C:\progra~2\adobe where that highlight is.

• Click next let setup run, and finish the install.

• If it asks if you want to register the program say no or later. Let the installer finish. It may open CS2 automatically.

• Register it with that 24digit# when it or you open CS2 for the first time.

• Check to make sure all Tool Icons are functioning.

• Check to make sure you have PDF functionality if applicable.

• If CS2 will not open, try rebooting, and open again.

I will check my email for reply notifications every half-hour.

It shouldn't matter, it's a leftover artifact, but I'll check to see if we can get it removed before we start.

Use this to remove that: How to Remove a Uninstall Entry in Programs and Features for Vista and Windows 7, if the method of your choice shows anything more for CS2 remove them also.

If you really want to be sure you could try using: Revo Uninstaller Pro, a 30day fully functional trial.

I'm glad I caught you early as I have to go out for a while. I'll check back when I get back, and I'll be ready for 7pm.

Anak: only question about your instructions is the initial “setup” icon. I remember there being several. Do you know what they icon looks like?

Should “setup” be an “application”? (I presume so.) or is it another file type? I know the one I tried last time caused an instant blue screen crash.

No, I don't.

When you place the CS2 Disk in the player give it several seconds to allow Windows to open the main folder.
There should only be one setup.exe, it should look like this:

It may have the CS2 program icon to the left of it.
If you see more than one, take a snip, and post it in your next reply before you go any further.

I also notice how you want me to select “Windows XP compatibility.” Please keep in mind this version of photoshop was from 2005. (but since it did work with Windows 7 for 2.5 years without issue there must be a way.)

In all the discussions I've read, the choice for compatibility is Windows XP Service Pack 3. Make sure it shows that before you click apply, and OK.
