    Please bear with me.

    You lost me at hello.

The instructions on disabling Norton all involve opening Norton. How do I open Norton?

The only Norton I can open is PC Check up. The menu looks nothing like it was described. The only option I see to disable anything is to turn the weekly scan off.

As for Hot Fix I downloaded the extension and each time I unzipped it it said, "Files successfully unzipped." However the files were nowhere to be found. I tried this several times and tried changing unzip locations. Each time the result was the same.

Correction it will not unzip in the C drive. I get "Error 40."

    Thanks, Anak. Much appreciated.

dollanganger:You may right click the Symantec (shield) icon in the system tray (lower right corner next to the clock; you may need to click the "show hidden icons" triangle as in the image) and select "disable **** protection"

Does Norton PC Checkup need to be installed? If not, I would recommend removing it. From what I have read about it, it is basically software to make a user think the system needs Norton/Symantec to be secure.

The steps above should be more accurate for the Symantec security.

For unzipping the file, make sure the .zip file is saved in your desktop or your documents folder. Then right click the .zip file, and click "Extract All...".

I honestly don't think I have anything other than Norton PC check up installed. I don't see anything else under program files or "add remove programs" and the same goes for Symantec.

I saved Hotfix to my Desktop and unzipped the files. It said "files unzipped successfuly" but none appear. When I try to unzip them to my desktop or any drive, no new unzipped files appear.

Try entering into the box that says C:\ for the destination: C:\Users\Public\Documents\

Navigate to C:\Users\Public\Documents and run the Windows6.1-KB951418-x64.msu file.

I found the file. When I open it says scanning and then says "update not applicable to your computer."

Guess it's on to the Photoshop steps then. Sorry the hotfix was not applied.

I'm trying it right now. The reason I want to try CS6 is to see if the same problem occurs. If not I will try downloading CS2 and then using my product code.

Really really really really bad day all around. And I'm not talking about this computer problem. Thanks for staying with me.

I know I'll feel better once photoshop is working even if it's just a temp fix.

Understandable. I think trying CS6 is a good step.

Sorry to hear you had a rough day. Mine was a bit rough, too.

I think my overall frustration with my day may have shown through to Anak for which I apologize to him. :)

Just when my day couldn't get any worse IT DID. Not related to this issue.

Great news! Photoshop CS6 works! A temp fix but good to be back in the game.

I was out of the game last night because I am taking medication for my sciatica, and was unable to concentrate, and went to bed early.

    dollanganger: That is great news!
To help prevent future problems you should start making plans now to clean up your machine of any programs that are not essential to your day to day operations, and believe it or not using the HP Recovery Manager to restore your machine back to when you first started using it would be the quickest, and easiest.

writhziden: Didn't miss it. Check your PM's if you haven't already.
