Explorer.exe Crashes, attempts restart, crashes again. Details Inside

Hello everyone. This morning I turned my computer on to find that Explorer.exe had crashed. I attempted restarting explorer.exe but every time it attempted to restart it would just crash.

I have already begun a System Scan using sfc /scannow in Command Prompt...which just finished upon writing this up an Windows didn't find any "integrity violations"

I have NOT installed the latest Windows Updates only because I haven't gotten around to doing it. I have also read on other forums that Microsoft Security Essentials seems to be the culprit but I wanted to come here to verify that with you guys before I start messing with Windows essential applications.

What I will do in the meantime while waiting for an answer here is run a chkdsk and a virus scan(AVG).

    Thanks in advance.

EDIT: Rebooted my computer and Explorer.exe now runs fine. The problem I'm going to run with is intermittent but still how would I go about fixing this?

Are you running both AVG and MSE? If so, remove one or the other. Having two security programs that accomplish essentially the same tasks can cause conflicts due to them accessing the same system files or system resources simultaneously. It is possible this is the behavior that is causing your explorer.exe issue.

No I just have AVG installed. I thought MSE was a pre-installed item for some reason, but no I am only running AVG

Alright, check for other startup programs or services that might cause conflicts: Troubleshoot Application Conflicts by Performing a Clean Startup.

The funny thing is the problem is intermittent. Since last night I have not had any issues what so ever, HOWEVER the next time this does come put I will pull up the link you left here and take a look see. Thanks.
