Black screen instead of login (can't do anything)

I had recently downloaded login screen changing software. I can't exactly remember what it was, but it was something resembling this [LINK].

So I used it, changed a few things, and it was working great.

When I tried to change the login image's border, I changed them all to transeparent 80x80 and 100x100 bmp's.

When I selected save and apply changes it was working great (opening cmd and typing what was gibberish to me).

Then it opened a window saying that it completed succesfully like normal so I did start, lock, to get to the login screen to see if it worked.

It displayed a black screen, except for a moveable mouse.

I tried ctrl-alt-del and ctrl-shift-esc, but neither did anything.

I held the power button and restarted the computer. It displayed the windows has recovered from an error screen. I selected start as normal. It flashed the underscore blinking for a few seconds, then showed the windows logo and took me to a black screen (with a mouse) where it should take me to the login screen.

I couldn't do anything, so i held the power button and rebooted, but started it in safe mode this time. It displayed a command prompt looking screen with lots of loaded: xxx's. then took me to the black screen (with a mouse, sleightly larger than normal).

I have no idea what to do as I can't seem to do anything but move a mouse (clicking does nothing).

I appreciate any help I get.

    Do the following steps:
    1. Restart your system or turn it on and get to the Advanced Boot Options screen.
    2. Select Repair Your Computer
    3. Use the System Recovery Options to choose System Restore
    4. Follow OPTION TWO of System Restore to restore your system to an earlier date before the problem started
    5. Pay close attention to OPTION ONE step 8. and the NOTE: for that step

Thank you so much! I couldn't figure out how to get to the F8 screen because I normally have to press the function key for the F keys.

Seriously you are amazing! I am so grateful!

You're very welcome. I take it the system restore worked?
