Multiple BSOD errors playing Arma 2 Latest: 10007e

I've been getting BSODs randomly while playing Arma 2 with the Dayz mod. At first I thought it must be something with the game but I've also gotten BSODs playing Red Orchestra 2: Heroes of Stalingrad but I've also played other games like Portal 2 without problems. Thinking it might be driver related I did a fresh install of windows but to no avail.

Half the time the game will crash randomly anywhere from 10 minutes of play to 4 hours giving a 0x000005 exception code. The other half of the time my computer will hang and BSOD giving me a different bccode almost every time. The most recent is 10007e and the only other one I remember is d1 which is one of the few that I've gotten multiple times.

The Windows Desktop Manager has also crashed twice but I'm not sure it that is related.

My computer:

Windows 7 Home Premium x64 (fresh install)

It was custom built a year ago and was problem free until about a month ago when the BSODs start. They stopped for a while but started again about a week or two ago.

SP1 isn't installed, please do the following:

Installing Windows 7 Service Pack 1
1. Visit the PC manufacturer's website and update ALL drivers. DO NOT use Windows Update or the "Update drivers" function of Device Manager.
2. Check Device Manager for any unknown/disabled devices - if there are unknown/disabled devices, fix them with the latest drivers from the device manufacturer's website (not the PC Manufacturer)
3. Visit Windows Update and get all updates (may take repeated visits)
4. Visit Windows Update and get Service Pack 1 (usually under Important Updates). Read these notes for installing SP1: Steps to follow before you install Windows 7 SP1 and Windows Server 2008 R2 SP1 from the Microsoft Download Center
5. Visit Windows Update and get any other available updates. May take repeated visits, but keep it up until you get several "Windows is updated" results.

I have had limited success in installing updates/Service Packs when using a "clean boot". I suspect that I'm just bypassing the problem - and that it can come back to bite me in the butt later on.

Daemon Tools (and Alcohol % software) are known to cause BSOD's on some Win7 systems (mostly due to the sptd.sys driver, although I have seen dtsoftbus01.sys blamed on several occasions).
Please uninstall the program, then use the following free tool to ensure that the troublesome sptd.sys driver is removed from your system (pick the 32 or 64 bit system depending on your system's configuration): DuplexSecure - FAQ

Some free alternatives (I don't use them, so I can't comment on them)

MSINFO32 is suggestive of hardware problems with your video card. Let's see what the memory dump files have to say.....

6 memory dumps, 4 different BSOD error codes, and 2 different causes are blamed (the kernel and dxgmms1.sys (a DirectX driver))
This is most likely a hardware problem. Hardware problems include:
- borked (broken) hardware
- overclocking
- compatibility issues (such as missing service packs)
- low-level driver problems (such as Daemon Tools/Alcohol software)
- malware

If the above steps don't stop the BSOD's, then I'd suggest starting with these free hardware diagnostics (start with the video tests first): Hardware Diagnostics

Thanks for quick reply.

I installed SP1 and all other updates as well as removing the sptd.sys driver with the tools. I also updated all those 3rd party drivers.

I started playing Arma 2 again and the game crashed after about 10 minutes. It was the same error, 0x000005, that I would get 50% of the time when it didn't BSODs. I'm going to continue playing it and see if it BSODs and then I'll upload any more .dmp's.

I'm also going to try to find a different video card I can borrow and see if that stops the BSODs.

A c0000005 error is an error accessing memory.
Most often it happens with a corrupted program, although it can be due to RAM issues.

Let the program crash a couple of more times (even if it doesn't BSOD) and then upload a new jcgriff2 report. That may have more info on the cause of the crash.

Also, if the error message stays open, leave it open.
Then open up Task Manager (Ctrl-Shift-Esc) to the Processes tab.
Right click on the game's executable (.exe) and select "Create Dump File"
Zip up the dump file and upload it to a free file hosting service so we can download it and see what it tells us.

I've been playing and haven't gotten a BSOD yet but I've only been able to play twice since my last post. Both times it has crashed with the c000005 but when I go to create the .dmp file from the Task Manager I get an error saying that it is unable to do so -"Access Denied."

Do I need to start Task Manager as an Administrator? If so, how? I'm already running the game as an Administrator.

I'll keep playing the game to see if I get any BSODs.

Try starting Task Manager as an Adminstrator and see if that works for you.

To do it, locate Taskmgr.exe (normally in C:\Windows\System32), right click on it and select "Run as Administrator"

It's crashed a few more times now but still no BSOD yet. I'm uploading a new jcgriff2 report like you asked and I also made the .dmp for Arma 2 from Task Manager and that is currently uploading but it will take a while since it's over 1 GB.

Found several of the application crashes pointing at an nVidia dll ( nvd3dum.dll ) - a component of your nVidia video drivers.
The first step is this:
- download (but don't install) a fresh copy of the latest video drivers from Drivers - GeForce
- uninstall the current video drivers using Control Panel...Programs...Uninstall a program - or the Uninstall entry in the Start Menu (if there is one).
- check to see that nvd3dum.dll has been removed from your system (search the C: drive for it).
- then install the freshly downloaded copy of the video drivers and see if that fixes the problem.

The memory dump shows multiple problems with multiple files. I'm not an expert at user dumps - but I'll ask someone else to have a look at it. Have you changed anything in the system that might explain multiple problems in both the game files and Windows files?

I haven't made any changes before the crashes started that would be out of the normal.

I uninstalled my Nvidia drivers with Control Panel>Programs>Uninstall a Program but when I search the C: drive there are still 2 copies of the nvd3dum.dll found and also 2 copies of nvd3dumx.dll but I don't know if those are related as far as the crashing. The driver also said there were errors uninstalling but the computer automatically restarted before I could read the whole message. However, the driver is no longer listed under Uninstall a Program. Should I just re-install the drivers or should I delete the .dll's first?

When I was uninstalling the drivers I accidentally hit the "Restart Now" button instead of the "Finish" button on the uninstaller. I wanted to finish uninstalling all the drivers (Nvidia has multiple drivers for 3D and sound) before I restarted so I only had to do so once. So I hit cancel when it came up saying Windows needs programs to close before it can shutdown and the computer BSOD. It gave a C2 bccode.
