Toshiba Satellite l500D freezes when windows starts

It was having problems and I reinstalled windows and it went through that process fine, but as soon as it finished configuring for the first time it froze again. It opens in safe mode fine...very confusing

Do a hard drive scan in safe mode and see it that is the problem.

    Welcome to SevenForums Zula,

Since really nothing would be lost,
My recommendation: use following tutorial:Clean Reinstall - Factory OEM Windows 7

Don't let the title bother you. The tutorial actually covers all cases.

Read the tutoial from start to finish and then install windows per the tutorial.

The HD scan came up with an error in ...system32/1.dll, then it still froze, ran again, came back clean and still froze. Anything easier than the above tutorial? Or do I gotta do all that?

Hiyya Zula and welcome to SF I had a lot of problems with my Satellite L550 - HDD probs that is and I had to factory default it (power on holding the 0 key down) and start from scratch - five times.

Got sick of that and I ended up putting a 128GB Crucial M4 SSD in mine as I don't need that much space and it got rid of all that Toshy crapware using an OEM - plus it's a good chance to up the RAM too mate.

So are you factory defaulting or reinstalling from a Microsoft disk? For about $150
(out here) you can get a 500GB HDD and just slam in an OEM ($99) too. The extra RAM is not expensive either.

Oh forgot - good chance to make sure you have ACHI set up too before the install.
