    BSOD Random - ntoskrnl.exe+7f1c0, Bug Check 0x000000f4

Hi everyone, i have been having this issue intermittently.

I do some heavy gaming with no problems at all (Batllefield 3 on Ultra for 2-3 hours straight)

Most times this BSOD happens when i have left a torrent to download or i am simply opening a folder in explorer or browsing a web page.

I have researched this error many many times and have done several things to see if i can fix it myself, they are as follows:

    • Checked RAM, memtest and swapped sticks etc.
    • Upgraded firmware for SSD (as i heard Vertex 3 was known for BSODs)
    • Used the OS just on my Seagate HDD, with the SSD uninstalled/removed
    • Replaced RAM with Corsair Vengeance 8GB (had BSOD within 2-3 hours)
    • Made sure i am only using the two main intel 6GB SATA ports for SSD and HDD (set to AHCI)
    • Am only running MSE as an antivirus

I am eager for help and will take any advice i can from the wealth of knowledge on these boards,

Kindly see attached my uploaded documents and please don't hesitate to ask for more if they are needed.

    Kindest regards,

    Daco

Bluetooth is disabled. Is this deliberate? If so, why? Please re-enable the Bluetooth and update it. Once updated, feel free to disable it again.

Dirty bit is set on the G: drive. There are only 2 ways to fix this:
    - run CHKDSK /R /F from and elevated (Run as adminstrator) Command Prompt
    - fully format the drive
You can physically remove/disconnect the drive also
I'd suggest running hard drive diagnostics on ALL drives: Hard Drive Diagnostic Procedure

Triple check to make sure you're not using the Marvell controller.
Ensure that the Marvell Controller drivers are the latest available from the manufacturer.

Western Digital software dates from 2008. Please uninstall it.

100 mHz overclock in one of the memory dumps. Is this deliberate, or is there an auto-overclocking app present on the system (sorta like Turbo mode). If there is, please disable it - they've been known to cause BSOD's

Memory dumps seem to point towards a hard drive problem. I'd strongly suggest that you check all hard drives attached to the system - both internal and external (USB) - using this link: Hard Drive Diagnostic Procedure

    Hi thanks for your reply!.

Before doing any of the steps i did get another set of BSODs, i'll attach the updated .rar file as well.

Bluetooth was disabled and am not sure why i did that (probably because i never use it) but have turned it back on.

I've formatted Drive F which was an external WD drive, it is now removed. Also removed the WD software

I tried to run chkdsk /r /f but it would get stuck on a certain file, please see the attached image to see what i mean.

I have put in another Seagate drive (exact same as drive E:, which has now replaced F) i did this in case i need to back up anything from my C or E drives.

I stopped overclocking, This was in the BIOS. Fairly basic as it has options for "Power saving" "Default" or "optimized". I reset it to defaults so the RAM or CPU is not getting "turbo boosted".

I tried running Seatools from boot disc but it wouldn't recognize any of my drives!! So i downloaded Seatools for windows (an application) and ran the long tests on both (both passed).

Also attached the new perfmon /report (which looks a LOT better than the one before).

Since doing the above steps i haven't had a BSOD yet (45 minutes and counting)

Disabled devices aren't a problem - they're only a problem if they haven't been updated. That's because, in most cases that I've seen, the drivers still load when a device is disabled in Windows. So if the drivers are outdated, they can cause problems. The "fix" is to enable the device and then update it's drivers. Then it's OK to disable it again if so desired.

Which drive were you running CHKDSK on ? If it was the F: drive, that's probably understandable. If not on the F: drive, try running it now that the F: drive is gone.

It's still referring to drive issues. Ensure that you run the hard drive diagnostics on ALL hard drives.
If it still BSOD's, then disconnect all but the boot drive and see if that BSOD's

    Thanks again for the reply,

I have run chkdsk on ALL internal drives now (removed the WD external drive), All tests completely successfully!!

I also took it upon myself to update my intel SATA controller from my motherboards website, no BSODs for 8 hours now.

Thank you very much for your help usasma. I have booked mark your links as well for further reading to expand my knowledge.

    Kind regards,

    Daco

Just FYI - CHKDSK checks the file system on the hard drive. It's not the same thing as a hard drive diagnostic (which tests the hard drive itself). It's possible for the drives to pass CHKDSK and still fail the hard drive diagnostics.
