Frequent Crashes - Not specific to activity

Hello all- I apologize in advance for my lack of technical knowledge. My desktop computer has been crashing (BSOD) regularly for some time, and I have been avoiding addressing the issue because I knew it would be beyond me. Many of my web searches have led me back to your forum, so I thought I would try to seek your help.

From what I can tell the bug/crashes are from a non-paged area fault. They seem to be possibly related to ntoskrnl.exe, but I am not sure. The parameters all start 0xFFFFF8A, but there are many different variations from there. I can't seem to figure out what it is related to- as it appears from my side to be at random.

I do not play games, or do anything unusual on this computer - Win 7 HP 64-bit. Microsoft Office, Google Chrome, that's pretty much it. I run ESET NOD32 for security. The computer is old and not very "advanced" in terms of memory/processor (2.5 GHz Dual-Core Pentium E5200 w/ 3.00 GB RAM) because it was always intended only for email, web surfing, and basic word processing use.

I have tried to follow your guidelines for posting information, and attached the performance report and the other detailed report as zip files.

Also, here is an example of the most recent crash report:
On Tue 7/3/2012 2:43:59 AM GMT your computer crashed
    crash dump file: C:\Windows\Minidump\070212-25272-01.dmp
This was probably caused by the following module: ntoskrnl.exe (nt+0x70040)
    Bugcheck code: 0x50 (0xFFFFF8A00F296000, 0x0, 0xFFFFF88001876BD2, 0x0)
    Error: PAGE_FAULT_IN_NONPAGED_AREA
    file path: C:\Windows\system32\ntoskrnl.exe

Any and all help is greatly appreciated (especially if you can explain it in simple terms for me). Thanks!

    Analysis:
All crashes point to acedrv08.sys which is software that provides copy protection for discs. You have two options: update your MAGIX software which seems to be the culprit (you can confirm this by uninstalling it and seeing if the problems stops), or renaming all acedrv08.sys files to acedrv08.sys.bak. To rename the files:
    1. Open a command prompt:
      1. Open your Start Menu...
      2. Choose All Programs...
      3. Choose Accessories...
      4. Right Click Command Prompt...
      5. Choose Run as administrator...
    2. In the command prompt, type:
      Code:
      cd ..\..
      dir /a acedrv08.sys
    3. Take note of where acedrv08.sys is stored and then rename it...
    4. For instance, if it is stored in C:\Windows\system32\drivers\, the command you want to use is:
      Code:
      rename C:\Windows\system32\drivers\acedrv08.sys C:\Windows\system32\drivers\acedrv08.sys.bak

Thank-you!! I have tried uninstalling (as I no longer use the software regularly) and hopefully that fixes it! I am glad to know the alternative approach if ever I need to install it again. Thanks a ton- fingers crossed!

Let us know whether the problem is solved once you have had a chance to do your normal routine long enough to feel confident the problem is solved. If it is solved, please mark the thread solved at that time. :)

You're welcome!! Glad to see it solved!!!

If problems come back (best wishes they do not!), you can always re-open this thread by marking it unsolved and posting a new post with the problem. :)

OK- so not as easy as I had hoped. BSOD again today, and the computer hung there, I had to hard boot it. It is the acedrv08.sys again "page fault in a non-paged area". since I have already uninstalled Magix, I tried to rename the file as you instructed, and if I did it right, it appears that the file cannot be found. I have attached the command log of what I typed and what it reported back so you can let me know if I messed up, or if I am interpreting correctly. Hopefully you have another idea of what the issue might be? Many thanks in advance for your help!

Hello again, I think I have the reports again for you... the computer has not crashed again since the 13th when I wrote the above note, so I am not sure what could be going on. I know that there were a lot of updates outstanding on the 13th, so maybe that? Anyway, let me know if you come up with something from the reports attached - thanks a ton!

Hello, Same crash again this morning- the computer was again frozen on the BSOD and reporting "page fault in a non-paged area" and acedrv08.sys as the issue. Please help!! I have no idea what to do (see requested files attached above from a week ago).

    Thanks!
