    BSOD with car scanning program

    System:
    Dell xps l702x
    CPU: Intel I7-2720qm
    RAM: 8gb
    O/S: Windows 7 Ultimate 64Bit

Get a constant Bsod when running this car scanning program usually within 5-20mins of it running. Tried running it in different compatibility modes with xp and vista as administrator but the program still crashes.

    Device Concerns:
    Code:
Officejet 7400 series	ROOT\MULTIFUNCTION\0000	This device is disabled.
facap, FastAccess Video Capture	ROOT\IMAGE\0000	This device is disabled.
Officejet 7400 series	ROOT\IMAGE\0001	This device is disabled.
Were you aware of the above? If so, please explain your troubleshooting steps.

    Analysis:
Crashes are being caused by uvscan.exe. Please explain what this scanning application is you refer to. If you can provide a link to the site where you obtained it, that would be great!

Also, have you tried running the scan with Norton removed? Norton Removal Tool.

    Security Software:
If you remove Norton, make sure to install security software. I recommend either of these:

Yeah the wireless on the printer doesnt work and i dont need the fastaccess when i use my laptop at home.

uvscan is a program that monitors all the reading from a car's computer. no, i havent tried without norton could that be the cause would i need to add an exception or just disable everytime i use the program? the uvscanning site doesnt exist anymore but i think the program was built for windows xp. Which is why i tried using a different compatibility mode.

It sounds like the program is not compatible with Windows 7. What is the function of the program?

I have no idea what you mean by "a car's computer" so I am at a loss how to give any recommendations. More details about the program are welcome.

the function of the program is to read a car's computer or "pcm" and display the information like a scanner but in realtime.

If the program was built for xp i thought changing the compatibility mode to run in xp mode as admin would work or do i need to disable norton as well. i guess ill try it later. If that doesnt work do i need install dual boot version of xp?

Unfortunately, not all programs that worked in XP work in Windows 7. I have a couple that must be run in an XP virtual environment to work properly. If you are using an external peripheral to connect to your car's computer, then you are probably better off dual booting Windows 7 and Windows XP.

How do you connect to your car's computer with your PC?

yeah i just went ahead and install windows virtual xp on my laptop seems to be working. although the machine mysterious crashed when i put pc in hibernation after i finished scanning but no more crashes after that.

you can buy a tuner like HPTuners.com >> Performance At Your Fingertips and connect it to your laptop then you read/scan/edit you car's computer for performance purposes, better gas mileage, etc...

I know what you are talking about. I'm a retired Ford Master Mechanic. If your car is under warranty it's not wise to use this on a car. Changing settings could void your warranty. A Ford dealer has equipment that hooks up to your computer systems on your car that cost ten's of thousands of dollars. Then send people like me to school that cost more thousands of dollars to learn how to use them properly. That makes me wonder how a few hundred dollar program and a few cables can do the job. Changing things could also conflict with EPA standards. Before retiring I worked on cars and trucks where people used such things on their car or truck and it cost them thousands of dollars for me/dealer to put things right so it would run properly and pass a EPA test. A dealer is the only place that has all the information, training and equipment to do this because of the cost. If a few hundred dollars would tweak better fuel millage, better performance ect. the manufacture would have done it already. They spent many millions of dollars to get thing as they should be and are still spending millions of dollar to improve them. I went to the website you posted and it stipulated that their product works with Vista. Just something to think about before making changes to you vehicle.
